Fish container, help out beside plants and.?
ok, i'm a newbie to fish tanks. i have just gravel and lately started to put plants in the fish tank. i also got some java moss ball and a few of those plants that you don't have to plant and just leave floating around.
so i want to start have a more natural look in my Freshwater tank.
1) do i requirement to switch the gravel out?
2) how do i get a natural green floor (like a grassy bottom)?
3) what are the best ways to go getting a planted cistern started.
my brother is moving into an apartment so he's giving me his fish. i don't know what kind of fish they are but he's says they're from South America... really colorful. anybody who can give tips would be appreciated.
The gravel is good as an anchor for the plants. There are a lot of different plants out within, you will need to research them to see what you like the look of and what types of plants will do well together and next to the light you have for your tank. Here are a couple of websites roughly speaking aquarium plants:

Your brother says his fish are from South America and are colorful. They may be cichlids. There are quite a few different species of cichlids. Once you know what type of fish they are, you can research them and see what types of plants they like and how hulking of a tank they may need. That way, you will know the best plants to capture to go with them. Here is a website on cichlids (just in satchel that is what they are):

ooh and bettas are really cool
Use a tip of a pen and watch the betta follows it
show a mirror to it and watch what he does
(not for too long...just a minute or two)
and also, put contained by a clean straw in his water, he chases it and tries to bite it...its a moral rush of adrenaline and doesn't stress him!
