There's not much you can do, just keep his river super clean and feed him a high element goldfish food...
O yeah, don't worry it will, just give it right temperature and make sure that he isn't within cold water, warm water will make well him faster.
some more info on them. good luck!

To help reduce stress and secondary infection, you should brackish the tank with either Aquarium Salt or Rock Salt. 1 teaspoon per gallon. Pre-dissolve the saline with some tank water and slowly make the addition of to a high flow area. You can bump up the temperature of the river to 78F. Be careful, higher temperature will deplete oxygen so bring in sure you have plenty of aeration in the container.
If you have a broad spectrum antibiotic, like Maracyn-Two or Maracyn-Plus you can dose it according to directions. Both are light sensitive so whether you have a light over the tank, turn it bad.
ok use melafix (in a blue bottle)it really helped out my betta's shredded fins.
go to the nearest petstore like petco or petsmart.
pious luck man.
Answers: If the tail itself and not just the fins are really ripped I would affix an antibacterial to the tank just as a percaution. If it just the fin, no have need of to add.
Keep the water quality large, Stick to your routine water change. He will heal and his tail will grow posterior.
DO NOT add salt to your goldfish tank at any time for any explanation. Salt interfears with a goldfish's ability to process water. SInce they do not enjoy stomachs like other fish, goldfish need additional dampen to process foods. Adding salt interfears with this process causing swimbladder, bloat and surrounded by time dropsy.
