HELP NEW BETA OWNER IN NEED OF HELP ASAP?
Okay I have a beta I just got a week ago. He spazzed out at first and be chasing the bubbles from the filter and everything and I thought he was fine and he calmed down. I live in a dorm that gets comparatively warm so my roommate occasionally opens the window a short time to cool it down but I think this makes him too cold and stresses him out. We left for the ACC Championship hobby on Friday and I figured he'd be fine since her beta has been fine formerly.
When she cracked the window, ever since he's been going crazy. He had this rock formation surrounded by his tank with him and he kept swimming down trying to get stuck between that and the reservoir. Me, being scared, removed the rock formation from the tank and he later would just float up under the filter, which are where the slots are, and concerned of stay there til I moved the filter. This scared me to so I turned it off so his fin wouldn't catch stuck in it, I know this isn't good but I waited for him to silence down and when I turned the filter back on, he started freaking COMPLETELY out again. I don't know what to do... Is he going to die or is he going to be okay?
This is my first fish ever and I've always wanted one and I don't want him to die already!
PLEASE HELP!
you should have started with an easier fish similar to a gold fish but if you don't have a big ample tank and you put another fish in there it will go and get killed by the beta.
Why do you hold a filter? I've had several betas and I've never ever had a filter, and they're always fine.
Sometimes they swim around. They're fish. They've get nothing else to do. And I would put the rock formation back in, betas resembling to burrow down. I actually have a little bud pot in my tank right now for my fish to sway out in.
It might be from the hot/cold change but if it is a gradual change them it shouldn't bother him. Although fish of adjectives kinds will freak out if a light comes on to promptly. If this is happening at night try finding a way to slow ly variety the light on the tank brighter when you turn it on.
As for the getting under stuff I hold seen several betta's exhibit this behavior. I think it is somewhat normal for them to perform like that. Kind of like hiding.
maybe the pressure from the filter is too high.
u dont obligation a filter anyway, just put it in a fish bowl and nurture it.
Answers: I'll only just tell you what I know about my betta and he is happy. Their dampen needs to be in the 70s. I had to grasp an aquarium thermometor because my room tends to be cold and I wanted to be able to transmit when to turn up the heat.
They like to swim, they can randomly freak out. As long as they aren't bang into things they will be fine.
It's true, most bettas tend to not like filters. However, mine doesn't mind. He even seem to be obsessed with the bubbles and stares at them for what seems approaching hours on end.
Overall, I think you may just be paranoid seeing as this is your first fish. Don't stress it out by constantly shifting things such as moving out his rock or turning off and on his filter. Just put everything how you want it and let him be.
Also, bettas do not need such a big container as 2.5 gallons. Mine is in a one gallon tank and he is extremely happy blowing bubble nests.
maybe the speded of the water coming out of the filter is too efficient. or the vibrations could be bothering ur fish
best answerer?!
Betas usually dislike strong water currents. try changing the filter current or getting a unmarked, smaller filter. trust me i had this problem
How big is the tank, is it cycled, and do you own a heater? Bettas are tropical fish, and need water temps of at lowest possible 78-80 degrees to stay healthy. Also, a filter is only critical if the tank is cycled. If your tank is 2.5 gallons (the minimum cistern size for a betta) chances are it's not. You may want to remove the filter and do 100% water changes 1-2 times a week.
"Freaking out" is across the world a sign of stress, which may be caused by the rapid temperature flucuations you put your fish through. Get a furnace and keep the tank as far from the window as you can acquire it.
(Also, I was rooting for BC so the ACC championship game didn't closing stages well for me...sigh.)
