Help near Keeping Guppies Alive?
Okay we started with 5 male guppies. 3 of them died shortly after that (within a week) So left beside 2 males we added 4 females. This morning I found 1 male and 1 female dead (just put contained by females 2 days ago) there is still a good ratio (1 male 3 female) but I want to formulate sure they survive. I feed them tetramin tropical flake food, should I get something else...? I nurture them once in the evenings...please help my 5 year old is starting to obtain used to dead fish...they were a reward for him and I dont like have to tell him that another fish has died...oh by the way 10 brass neck tank
OK, first of adjectives, you probably have too many fish for just a 10 gallon cistern. You should only have 5 gallons per fish, which means solely two fish in a 10 gallon tank. With too many fish, the ammonia (from wastes) within the water increases too fast for a typical filter and the fish die. (this is what I've read and been told, anyway) Do you de-chlorinate the sea if you use tap water? Do you own a good filter? Do you have air stones that put bubbles contained by the water? Guppies need a lot of oxygen within the water. You can get a kit to theory test the Ph of your water too, to see if it's good for fish. Good luck!
If your guppies are dying, there is something wrong beside your water. You should test it, and not add anymore fish until you carry to the core of the problem with your water. Guppies should not be dying if they are housed properly. In a 10 gallon reservoir, you should have about 6 guppies, at maximum. If you do not have the time, and space for taking concern of 100+ babies every month, then do not get both genders. You should return with either all males, or all females.
I also e-mailed you but one quick thing- guppies are one of the easiest species of fish you can hold (just saw your edit) so don't get discouraged :)
Maybe it's lately the pet store your buying them at, try a diff. pet store. Maybe it's the temp of your tank, get a thermometer.
Answers: They probably had diseases?
I use Tetramin too, there's nothing wrong next to the food.
it might be the temp.?
75-80 degrees is good.
I just not long bought 14 guppies to add to mine tank. it's been a week and nearly half of them died. sometimes you just get the discouraging ones.
Try getting the bigger more healthy looking fish.
also when a fish dies, take it out immediately because the ammonia horizontal will rise fast and kill the other fish
Yeah, try not to worry, that happened to me aswell, probably pet shop's scorn, either that or bad tank, ask instore which compassionate of tank is best
