You could also research and write about the differences between the Female and Male Betta. And how they reproduce and care for the eggs + young.
You could talk about different kinds of bettas (plakats, giant, crowntails, halfmoons, veiltail, delta, doubletails, etc.), what they look like, and who developed certain strains.

You could discuss different methods of breeding bettas. There's so much you could say around this.

Also, maybe go into detail about bettas within the wild and how they differ from the bettas we buy in pet stores in lingo of appearance and behavior.

What in the region of where they come from.
Their natural habitat and how their labyrinth aids them within the rainy/dry seasons.
What about how they have be selectively bred by humans and have 4 distinct types now...
Answers:    What status are you in? I've never heard of a teacher asking for five intact pages on... anything, except big things. I am in position 11, and the only thing I had to do that be 5+ pages was my ISU (independent study unit) which came to going on for 10, but aaaanyway.

Betta fish.. there is a lot to say around them. For one thing, and whoever says this is wrong - they do NOT get stressed out when put contained by big tanks, and they are NOT happy in small, small tiny tank that make them cramped. Think of it this way, how do you think Betta's are contained by the wild? The wild is a very big place. Even whether you put two male Betta's in a 55-100 gallon tank, adjectives to themselves, they will still cross paths eventually, thus causing one of them to be severely injured, or even die.

Another thing is that they love adjectives kinds of food, cooked vegetables, cooked rice even, cooked shrimp, oranges, lemons, fruit, it just depends on the personality of the fish, and what he or she intuitively takes a liking to.

Another thing you could write in the region of is mating, perhaps? How you can keep a mannish and female together ONLY when breeding, because the male will eat both the eggs, and the womanly, or at least attack her. How breeding works is that, first, they are placed in a nice sized tank, I'd articulate for spawning Betta's, a nice cycled, filtered, heated, 10 gallon tank with live plants and some considerate of gravel substrate will be quite adequate. First, the male will be blowing bubbles at the top of the cistern water, and he will be doing this for days. This is called his bubble nest, and males only do this when they pleased, healthy, and ready to mate. Betta's can start mating as youthful as one year old! So then, the female will go and get vertical stripes on her underbelly, and she will get noticeably fatter. She will release the eggs into the bubble nest, and the male will fertilize them.
Give the manly about an hour and a half to do so, seeing as he goes over and does it again, to trade name sure that the eggs are going to hatch. At this point you may remove the male, and female, and next hatch the eggs on your own, etc.

Now, as you probably know, Betta's are very territorial, and two males cannot go with respectively other, as said above. Betta's are somewhat like Cichlids (angelfish, etc) and they like to rear past its sell-by date any fish who comes into their part of the tank. If you put a male Betta beside Mollies, Fancy Guppies, Platies, Swordtails, etc, do not expect them, especially the Fancy Guppies to live. Your male will think that the tail's of those other fish are the fins of the other manly, and want to attack.

Here is a picture of a male Betta: http://image04.webshots.com/4/7/49/42/55... Notice that the fins are longer, much longer.
Here is a picture of a female Betta: http://www.oneworldinternetcafe.com/bett... Notice that the fins are shorter, and she, herself is a bit smaller than the male.

In your essay, you can describe the masses colour variations of Betta's. As far as I see it, Betta's come in all different colours, such as mine, who is a pastel peach colour, to black, to white and red, to wan and blue, to white and black, to white and blue. It's rather fun going into pet stores and seeing the kinds, and colours of Betta's they have. Here is a website that describes the colours more, and how they get that way! http://watershed3.tripod.com/types.html

You can also explain the different types of Betta's. There are half-moon Betta's, Crowntail Betta's, Butterfly Betta (although these are more rare, and less see in pet stores), Round-tailed Betta's, Double tail Betta's, etc. The site above also helps in decipher that.

Anyways, I hope this is enough information. Betta fish are lovely fish that are great for pets! Good luck!

EDIT: I forgot! Betta's have this kind of lung web inside of them which makes them able to breathe air! This is why Betta's, (and particularly NO fish) cannot be kept in a bowl, since there is less surface nouns on the top for oxygen to go in and circle around. They need an unscrew space for air, or else they get sicker much effortlessly.
Just in reply to Sarah: I dont know where on earth you went to school but I was have to do 5 page papers by 5th grade..
Tell your teacher that they are stupid, whether they want to know about betta's then they need to do that essay.
go to the petco website. They have greatly of information on all pets including betta fish.
