Help! silver dollar fish ?
are silver dollars a schooling fish. and what else can i put with them in my 55gallon tank. and how big to do they achieve.
they are schooling fish, and are vegetarians, they can get up to 8-10 inches whether well cared for, get at tiniest 4 or 5 silverdollars, a 55 gallon tank is great, make sure it have cycled, fish that can go with silver dollars are peaceful fish close to a couple of bala sharks, non aggressive cichlids like oscar, or african cichlids
Fish guy is right. They're BIG. Anything relatively quiet will be fine with them. You will need to upgrade your tank size. You can't achieve bala sharks. They need to be kept in schools of 6+ balas, and they bring a foot long. 6 feet of bala shark in a 55 gallon doesn't work. Oscars are aggressive, and do not keep them beside african cichlids, as they will have different water requirements. The second answerer as no clue what he's chitchat about.

silver dollar fish can get huge, over 8 inches. They ARE schooling fish, and although they are closely related to piranhas, they are peaceful, BUT they require a lot of room, particularly when they get older. You NEED an exterior power filter or canister filter with a bio-wheel!! Angelfish, livebearers (except for guppies), most catfish, and pretty much adjectives gouramis make good tankmates for silver dollars. I recommend you read this, if is pretty accurate and you involve to read it before buying silver dollars so you know how to take care of them: http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_page...
