Help Wanted! For stocking a 10 gallon cistern?

i want to keep the maximum fish count i can keep in a 10 gallon. also i want them to be bigger afterwards penny sized fishes. please suggest. is saltwater a good idea? please duggest sizeably.
i have never had a saltwater but i have hear it is alot more harder to take care of than a fresh water reservoir.
i have a 10 gallon (soon to get a 55 gal.) and so far i have
1 manly swordtail (really cool)
7 glo lite tetras
1 small platy (pregnant mommy)
1 male guppy (the father im guessing)
1 small sucker fish
and 1 black kuhli loach.

they all have different personaitys and i simply love them soo much.

so it kinda depends wat fish u want because u can have schooling fish like my glo lite tetras or a bunch of random fish.
but i propose any kind of platies or mollies because they are very social and get along very well with others.

A 10 gallon tank really isn't big enough for anything but penny size fish. It's also not substantial enough for a salt water aquarium which requires full-size amounts of water because of the waste that most salt river fish produce. In general, the smaller the tank the harder it is to maintain. The exception is temperament art aquariums, also known as "aquascaping". Some of the best looking freshwater tanks are nature art aquariums which combine live plants, rocks or driftwood, and groups of small schooling fish similar to Tetras or Danios. Check out the designs of Takashi Amano at www.adana.co.jp and be prepared to be blown away. You could incorporate his ideas into a 10 gallon tank which will impress anyone who lays eyes on it. Also, disposition art aquariums, while harder initially, create a symbiosis between plant and fish so maintenance is much easier in a small tank than one that have fish and artificial plants.
Answers:    Salt water is an alright idea, but spending money on live sand, and coral, and everything for a tank that small simply isn't worth it. Plus, there aren't many fish that you can keep contained by a salt water, 10 gallon tank. You should stick to fresh sea, unless you have a 30+ gallon tank. For a 10 gallon, there isn't a total lot of choices for fish. You can keep 5 Cardinal Tetras, which are slightly bigger than a penny, but they are blue and red, flashy, and beautiful! You could put in 4-5 guppies, Mollies, and Platys. But for those fish, lone keep 4-5 in your 10 gallon tank as you do not want to overcrowd them. If you don't own the time, and space to care for a million babies, you should get either adjectives females, or all males. Good luck!
