How can I verbs these shells?
We had a fish aquarium and we decided to put some shells in. After we did that, the intact fish tank become full of algae..which was weird because we ave 3 algae suckers. We be told it was because of the shells, the shells are from salt water and our aquarium is regular hose, so it made it all algae-y.
One of the shells was a big conch shell, it's all brown and green on one side, ow can I bear this off without ruining the shell?
algae growth arises due to direct exposure to sunlight. So avoid direct sunlight. in general algae does not grow into the tank because of introducing shells.
The best way to clean the shell is to soak them contained by luke warm water, and then using a soft bristled (old will do only fine) tooth brush and any mild non-gel based tooth paste scrub it stale. Wash thoroughly and replace in tank.
I have be in this situation before. What I did was scrub at the shells beside a bristle brush with soap, this actually took some of the algae off but not completely. The subsequent step I did is poor a little amount of clorine into a bucket with water (make certain the clorine solution is completely at minimal). I let the shells and other decorations rest inside the bucket for 3 hours, once the time was up I took the shells out and washed them again next to soap and then laid them out to dry in the sun for two days. I then again wash them with soap and water (to remover any clorine residue). Afterwards, I set them back up within the tank and they were clean as can be. The fish be never affected by them, since I made sure I took off any algae or chlorine residue. Good luck.
Answers: Bleach and water solution will work. Scrub the shells and rinse okay. Then dip the shells in water prepared using your dechlor to neutralize any remaining chloramates. Safe for the tank.
Sea shells can be used contained by fresh water just as a warning it will angle your PH level in the tank drastically. The shells could enjoy introduced minerals and phosphates which will make algae grow. This is a sign however of a healthy tank.
You can run phosphorus pad to remove any excess phosphorus from the tank. These pads can piggyback on your regular filter pads. It will not clear over darkness but within a few weeks there will be no more algae. Unfortunately or anything for your algae eaters either. Give the fish time to lock in up with the growth. Keep the sides scraped and remove the bulk by hand
BOIL THEM FOR ABOUT 5 MIN. TRUST ME I KNOW CUZ I HAVE HERMIT CRABS, AND I ALWAYS HAVE TO DO THAT.
