How tons Cichlids surrounded by a 55 Gal is biddable?
I Have a 55 gal. tank a wondering how many is to many? I own 9 right now. Nothing over 2 inches. I have been looking around and I am getting answers from.. No more than 10. and others truism the more the marry.up to 25. Any help would be great.
I would definitely not put anymore then 10, and specifically pushing it a bit. Some can get pretty big once the are full grown. Plus, the more you put in your tank, the smaller quantity room the fish have and since cichlids are an aggressive fish, the less amount of room you have contained by your tank, and the more fish you have in your reservoir, the more aggressive they get and the dominating fish will ill the rest of them.
A very simple answer, you lone want 55 inches of fish in your tank. And you want to take into commentary that these babies will grow, I mean the average size of cichlids is about 5 inches. So if you hold harmony in your tank immediately I would add anything else to it. You may want more so get another tank or cart your chances by adding more and watching the older ones take out the newer ones. Good luck with this.
it depends. maybe 10 african cichlids, or maybe 1 oscar that will still be cramped? Cichlids range greatly contained by size. 1inch-3feet.
It all depends on your filtration. First of adjectives.. what type of cichlids? African or South American?
Amazing site for anything fish related here:
Answers: I have cichlids and have a short time ago discussed this with a cichlid breeder this week.
The thing that is totally interesting about cichlids is that (to a certain extent within their power) they wont allow themselves to win overcrowded.
Cichlids will only grow to a healthy size based on their environment. In fact, if a tank is fitting overcrowded, the dominant cichlid's growth will slow with the others but it can actually release a hormone into the water that inhibits the growth of the other fish to prevent them growing larger than him and fitting more dominant.
In addition to this, cichlids can also release a hormone which renders the others infertile so breeding will not occur if in attendance is overcrowding.
I know this is the case with African cichlids but i am not 100% posiitve about other types of cichlids.
You dont want to overcrowd your fish because you will prevent them from growing to their inbred size and expressing their true colours which become stronger as they grow. It is also quite exciting to see them spawn which they won't do if they are overcrowded.
You will know your tank is overcrowded when your fish are growing extremely slowly or not at adjectives. Or when you notice some growing at a much more rapid rate than others. Whether yours is crowded at the moment depends on the species.
I have a 160gallon container with 13 cichlids and 2 small turtles (strange combination i know) and my cichlids are quite happy, one of them of late had 10 healthy fry which i will have to grant away when they grow up as this is more cichlids than i would like in my reservoir.
I would recommend you definately not go over 15, more than this could cause health problems from too much idle away and stress in the tank.
10 would probably be my limit, but you really own to focus on the behaviour of the fish and how they are growing and getting along with each other. As long as they are joyful and the tank is not getting dirty extremely quickly, they are not too overcrowded.
