I hold two feminine guupies next to huge stomachs. How do I know whether they're pregnant?
I must have 30 guppies in my tank and two of the females are really round and "fat". Are they pregnant? What do I do whether they are?
They should have a black dot next to your "poop hole", whether you want to keep the guppies then you should separate the females from the rest of your guppies, or else the fry (baby guppies) will be eat by the rest of your guppies. Even after the females give birth, you should remove the females because she will eat her own kids.
When feminine guppies are pregnant they develop a big black or reddish spot on their anal fin where they poop. This spot will tell u whether ur females are pregnant or not. If ur females doesn't have this spot then they are not pregnant if they hold then they are pregnant. The bigger the spot the more baby they will have. U requirement to remove ur females and put in a different tank each contained by different. And within 24 hours they will give birth. When they have completely given birth remove the females because they will guzzle their babies. And later u can raise the baby Fry's. when the Fry's will return with old enough then release them contained by the main tank, and make certain that the adults cannot eat them. Good luck!
Answers: Besides the usual big belly, the other big indication is her gravid spot:

As she nears her due date, that spot will continue to grow dark and darker.
She also may exhibit a lack of energy or appetite. Do not verbs; this is perfectly normal. =]
At this point, when you have determined that she is indeed pregnant, you may be tempt to buy those breeder nets/traps/plastic breeders at your pet shop.
My recommendation is that although the breeder net is okay and does the job of isolating the feminine fish from the others, it's not the best for a couple of reasons. For one, the fries (baby fish) don't have places to hide and formulate easy meals for the female. Two, even whether there was a place for them to stay (some breeders have "slits" and compartments that shield them from the mother), they don't other stay there.
What I do is isolate the pregnant fish by putting her in another tank whether available. If you don't have separate tank, then you can use an abandoned gallon of milk carton.
Just cut the top of an empty gallon of milk carton. Clean it, fill it with river and let it sit for a couple of hours, at least to get it to room warmth. Fill it with aquatic plants of some sort, preferable enough to put by the fry but not so much so that the mother fish doesn't have enough room to exercise or move around.
Put her in that. That will be your own "breeding network," per say. I personally don't like the breeding net they sell at the store unless they're the ones that come with the fake plants. Even later, I'd recommend making your own as it saves you money and the real plants provide enough oxygen for the mother and infant fish. =] Also, by doing this, you can save money and you don't have to worry going on for being there to take the mother out when she give birth. Most of the fry will survive long enough for you to realize that the mother has given birth and scoop her out. =]]]
For food, in recent times grab some flakes and put them in a ziploc bag. Grind them until it's a extremely, very fine powder. At first, they'll try to eat and may not fit everything in their mouth but by morning two, they'll start gobbling them up like hungry vultures. =]]]]
After she's done giving birth, take her out but don't put her beside the males, if you have any, as they will immediately try and mate near her again, causing her more stress and possibly killing her. It's best to put her in another tank/carton for at most minuscule 24 hours before putting her with the males.
I've been breeding guppies, mollies, platies, and swordtails for years so I've get some experience in this field. Message me if you hold any other questions, okay? =]
Hope that all helps. Good luck!
if they are pregnant, here should be a black dot on the stomach of the fish near the tail. if they really are pregnant, move them to a new container with lots of plants so that the babies can live in there. guppies breed exceedingly easily and if you're not careful, you'll soon pause up with a tank full of them!
