My Cichlids are hideing when i wander up to the cistern?

Ok i just got my fish tank almost two weeks ago and my two jack dempsy which are about 4 inches hide everytime i walk up to the cistern i dont no why i got them from my brother and they were fine there. My cistern is pefect and the only thing is that my nitrates were rotten but i think that they are fine now. My tank is massively clean with new stuff and purely very nice i just dont know why they are hideing from me. I havent done anything to make them terrified of me eaither but if you know why or what i can do to stop that please let me no! Thanks
It happens adjectives, the time. I think there getting used to it. I don't know if your doing this but perhaps you turn the light on because when I turn my light on in my container the fish hide. That's just my opinion.
No worries. It's unconscious for fishes to hide. They think of you as a predator so they will try to hide. It's nought serious. It's the way how fishes react. For Example: If a giant came walking by your house fanlight. You would freak out and run as fast as u could and try to hide. :) It's the same. You should put more plants and decorations inside for them to mask. You just got them two weeks ago so they haven't recognized you as their owner on the other hand. My fish does that too! They hide when i give them food too! Lol :P
Answers:    Give them some time my fish did that too for a long time but now they other come to the glass when they see me and never hide unless giving birth that is the exception.
Fish can be intensely timid, shy, and even scared. Since it doesn't know you very well, the fish may progress and hide.
