Rummynose tetras or Harlequin Rasboras?
Ok so im cycling a 64G tank at the minute and I am thinking about what fish I want to put in as section of a community.. I have my heart set on a 20-24 strong school and the two top contenders are rummys or harlequin rasboras and I cant decide which would be better.
From my point of viewpoint I just want a really nice close knit active shoal that will get on all right with the other future tank mate that will include pearl gourami (3f,1m), corys, otos, pearl danios, blue rams (1m 1f)
the other reason in favor of the rasboras is that they are partially the price of the rummys and are hardier fish.. I need 20-24 and over here the rummys cost EUR20 for 6, rasboras cost less than half that..
So what do those think as far as having a nice shoal is concerned..who would go for what and why factoring surrounded by cost, future tank mates, shoaling expertise, beauty etc etc...
Cheers
Rummynose are great fish and I would go for them. they are beautiful and very live and make a great sight. I would buy them in groups of 5 and stop when you enjoy enough
Both your choices would do very well.
I would swap the Otos for a nice 5-6" plec and one of the interesting body shape catfish
It will look great I am certain
I think they are both great choices but I prefer the rummynose tetras. They college beautifully and are always very influential swimmers and give your tank that perfect flash of color next to their red faces and striped tails. Even after your tank is cycled it's a fruitless choice to add a bunch of fish at once so adding them slowly over time may help near the price differential. Also, either fish does great in a school of 6+ so consider getting 10 rummynose tetra and 10 rasboras for some of respectively.
Good luck: )
Harlequin raspboras are one of my penchant fish. ;u; They're incredibly peaceful and tend to take well to respectively other, and on top of that they're very, very pretty.
Maybe I only have sentimental attachments. D:
harlequin rasboras would be great. they're gorgeous, and if you say that they cost less, next buy them! that way you'll be able to buy the amount you need for your container and have money left for more decorations and necessities like a filter whether you don't already have them! have fun and good luck!
Answers: I'm a rummy fan aswell.and keep a few diffrent variety as here breeders have made jumbo ones large tail ones aswell.
But I feel you concern as that price for them is a total set-up. They are a readlily available fish and should cost you no more than a euro each.
Each breeder charges differently so prices will vary.
Your right though, both choices are good schoolers but rummies and cardinals tetras are the tightest you can find. (besides harlequins)
In a 65 gallon you own the option for torpedo barbs aswell. easily the best centrepiece fish availble for freshwater tank. super peaceful tight schoolers, swim like sharks and get to be nearly 6-7 inches when full grown.
3-7 would really enjoy that tank. but there really expensive because of near quality, expect to pay 12 euro's each whether your able to find them at all.
I have various and there just the best.
Be very watchful with the pearl gourami, they can have a very fruitless temper
and rummies and harlquins are timid and will develop ick easliy and constantly if a fish like that decide to be mean.
plus you don't mix gouramies with cichlids.(pearl and rams)
you may get absent with honey gouramies and rams.
Good luck!!
