Why are they dying ?! problems near neons and cardinal tetras ?
on tuesday i started stocking my 90 gallon tank
i got 8 serpae tetras 5 neons and 5 cardianals
the searpaes are great they kinda nip the fins of each other ( i dont know why)
as the neons and cardinals everyday within are less of them there are only 2 cardinals and 4 neons and 2 of the neons are kinda big their stomach is getting bigger everyday ( are thye gonna own babies) ?? laying eggs?
i try feeding thme but they wont eat anythign so i doubt that they get chubbier from eating
i want to add more fish
i want blakc neons maybe they will be better also i want some black phantom tetras, red eye tetra and harlequin rasboras
the wet paraments are good ph is 6.9 ,temp.79,ammonia and nitrite arent detecable and nitrate is less that 50pmm
what do you mean ammonia and nitrite arent detectable? They're at 0ppm or you dont have a audition for them? Tetras dont do well in a tank thats going through its cycle, they're lovely fish and can add color to any tank but should only be added when the cycle is finished
Sounds to me similar to you should maybe check more in depth with your cistern. Either it is the fish or something is not correct with your tank and your a short time ago not seeing it right now. I would definately get the problem fixed now as to why fish are not living up to that time I would buy anymore and just loose more fish and money.
Answers: Yes, the green stuff is algae. And serpae tetras are infamous fin-nippers; it's without blemish normal for them to be chaising and nipping at each other.
Your nitrates are awfully dignified, so a 50% water change should be your first priority. Also, both neons and cardinals can be pretty delicate--it's not strange to lose some soon after introducing them. Big stomachs can mean a number of things--overfeeding, constipation, internal parasites, dropsy, etc.
Nitrate 50 whoa do hose change i never get it that high your close the far end of safe levels. Waste may be building up scantily in there especially next to cardinals. Cardinals are known not to be easy to keep surrounded by captivity some stores wont even order them since they are such bad shippers. With that high of nitrate you probably only just finished cycling and probably didnt do a water change. Although 50 is considered safe i try to save my tanks 20ppm or below. I would suggest 50% change, and I know cardinals look great but they are knotty to keep you might consider other fish but if they stay alive theyre worth it. With the big stomachs, is somebody else feeding them and overdoing it, or sneaking surrounded by some extra feed here and there
