300 g steady blanket?

is this a good heavy blanket for cold winter nights. we own a 15 yr old quarter horse. he's a little skinny now so i want something to comfort keep him warm while hes grazing. ps we didn't starve him hes a rescue,we've only have him 2 weeks
I think it would be good but you need to allow him to grow his own coat as ably, you may find that his own winter coat is much nicwer for him and after they grow one once they shed it looks beautiful, usually a thin horse will grow plenty of coat as they tend to overcompensate for the wieght
If your horse does not have any winter hair growing yet, you may want to blanket whether he is shivering. but if he is growing a winter coat I would leave the blanket off and of late try to get him to gain weight. Depending on where you live or how cold it get if you do decide to blanket I would keep it on until spring. I hope this help! Good luck!
Answers:    Stable and turnout rugs with filling range from 100g or so to 400g beside the more grams of filling the warmer the rug, so 300g is one of the warmer rugs.

However, you ask roughly a stable rug, and say you want it to keep him melt whilst he's grazing. Stable rugs aren't waterrpoof and so should be used when the horse is stabled, turnout rugs are waterproof and so these should be used when a horse is outside grazing.

Feeding in direct to put weight on will also help to keep him heat, but obviously you need to do this carefully and slowly as feed large amounts of feed suddenly can cause him to become ailing.
