A few mini question...?
Pregnant mini mare:
she was put in the pasture with said stallion within march.. a little early! next she was taken out in june. We haven't put her on any feed, and i know we will own to very soon, and then we will have to give a vaccination against her against rhino, right? Or is it different in minis?
any other foaling tips?
She is three right now, and I know its an early breeding, but she is a sweet heart, and we definitely had to buy her because she's very cheap. Also, additional training, for the foal coming soon.. can i own some advice on halter training?
and training for harness for the mare? for 4-H? (fall, 1 full year not just the spring acheivment day)
thx
what kind of horse is the mare?
I have a mini mare pregnant 2 yrs ago. Treat her as if she a regular sized horse. However, remember that minis have a more difficult time giving birth. My mare died because the foal out stuck and she pushed out some of her intestines. It is a good notion to let your vet know when your mare is close and call he/she right away when the mare go into labor! As for the foal, they are so fun! I halter trained my foal by gradually putting the halter on for longer and longer amounts of time. Also, make sure you catch the foal used to be touched and handled early on. Good luck!
Answers: Tee hee!
Mini's are cuties! :)
First off, March wasn't really untimely, because it's in February to March that their cycle begins!
1. HEALTH MAINTENANCE: You should worm regularly (at least bi-annual) whether not, more! because she's pregnant, and therefore, you especially want to control the parasites! Health repairs includes the rhino shot, vaccinate annually, just like you would do in general! And, get her a check-up! (Maybe get the vet to come to give the vaccines, instead of yourself, so they can check her out).
2. IT'S THE SAME. Treat this similar to you would any pregnant horse, BUT I will attach a link to a great site! which gives advice on Mini Broodmares! and what to expect/do throughout the pregnancy! http://www.mhranch.com/breeding_miniatur...
3. THE HALTER SESSION! next to that link, there is info. on haltering and training a mini stallion.a lot of that info. would be correct to use towards the foal handling.
4. Observe often! Keep Healthy! Contact the vet for any questions/concerns!
--ADDITIONAL INFO---
sorry, forgot to address the halter for the mare. First off, have you have a mini before? and, have you halter trained before? If not, contact a trainer, and ask them question!
If you have halter trained before, get the trainer to see you handle a horse (show them what you know) and get them to judge whether you have enough knowledge. If not, bring back them to show you what to do; or better yet, get them to train the horse for you. Then get programme. You shouldn't train the horse yourself for 4-H if you have no experience, you need a undamaging horse for the kids to work with. If you get help from a trainer, win a trainer that has worked with minis before preferably! :)
GOOD LUCK!
