Any new/fresh concept for mane braiding/banding?
I own a miniature horse and every year we do a couple of parades (Fourth of July and a Christmas Parade). I dress him up to look like a Budweiser Clydesdale (I buy fringe and velcro strips around his legs to look like the feathering...lol so cute) and he pulls an outdated Town & Country Radio Flyer with empty Budweiser beer cases while a friend of mine throws out candy. I've run out of design for doing his mane...in past years I have done rosettes near a smaller version of the draft horse decorations (like the Budweiser Clydesdale's), I've done crimped hair (after a wet braid have dried and been unweaved), I've done the diamond braid (if you have never done this kind of braiding it is really cool, it bear forever (depending on the length on the mane and how spaced everything is...go here to check out what it looks like... http://www.raspberryridge.com/continenta... ) I've even done this after I cut his mane to short and it didn't grow back long satisfactory in time (I bought several long black Halloween wigs, took them apart, sewed them back together to look approaching a horse mane, and banded it, the braided a long french braid down his neck, and sewed it in...no one know the difference) and I've also curled his hair into ringlets (no heat was involved, of late foam curlers and a sleezy to keep them in place until the parade).
My question is (sorry it took so long to gain to) has anyone tried or even have a new notion for mane braiding/banding? Even just a thought to get the ball rolling would be cool.
Here's a couple of pics of my guy (Shadow) taken awhile ago, his mane is much longer in a minute.

we give a pony a spiky mohawk. used colored hair spray and stuff in it to make him look "punk zebra" black pony next to colored stripes
To make the mane stand up we used extreame hold styling glue for hair. The stuff is rugged as a rock and washes out. we sectioned it into small parts. put a zip tie surrounded by the center and held it with a rubber band. applied the glue stuff.. and in reality sorta blew it dry with a shop vac on blow. Then sprayed color one him and it in lines
Nope, not really.
I like that one though.

I never really braid the horses manes or tail, simply sometimes my cousins clydesales if they are being shown.
If you look at aprils pics then thats what I do beside the clydes manes.
Answers: hi, just got a catalog in the post "wild horsefeathers 2009", it has a book titled braiding manes and tail for $22.95
the ad copy states 30 mane/tail accepted wisdom w/step by step illustrations.
there is a web site scheduled on back of catalog www.wildhorsefeathers.com
good luck!
There is a GREAT site for braiding patterns.

you have way too much time on your hands. My horses are lucky whether their manes get braided for a show.
I've tried a few funny things with manes...
Divide the mane as you would to engineer each division a plait, but instead tie them into "pigtails". Tie the first (top) two together (with another band) and keep going tying every next two. When you're done, tie the top two together again and next the next two and so on. Do as many layers as you close to. It should end up looking like a fishnet.
EDIT: Oops, I just realised someone posted a picture of this. My desperate!
Have you tried something like this? Not sure how to do it, but it should be easy adequate to find out. I think it's awesome that you do that with your pony, how adorable!
