Are fly mask out of danger for horses turned out 24/7?

My poor little pony is getting sun burn on his nose, lips and eyes as he has pink skin, I want to procure him a flymask with a nose protector, this one in singular -

How safe are fly masks on paddock horses? Could he get it caught on something? Does anyone own any experience with this? Thanks!
Fly masks have velcro closures, so whether he was to get it caught on anything, it would either rip or the velcro would un-do.also you have need of to check under the mask at least once a hours of daylight to make sure that there is nil in there that could harm his obverse or eyes (ie dirt, hay bits, etc.) and also to make sure that the eye darts are popped out and not surrounded by his eyes.Generally we take the horses fly masks off at hours of darkness because there are really no flies or bugs at night any ways and we like to endow with their skin a break from having a mask on because they get itchy below them and rub marks are never pretty to look at!

Good Luck!

PS: I found that Crusader makes awesome UV protection masks as capably!
In terms of them getting caught on something - they normally (everyone I've ever seen) close with velcro, which will come apart if the horse gets the covering hooked on something and tries to pull away, so in that respect, they're fine. As for impeding the horses' vision - when it rains, the little holes of the mesh obtain filled with h2o and the vision is really impair - I've experimented with looking through the mask when it's wet. Also, as the mesh itself t is somewhat occlusive, I would suppose that the horse's vision at night would be further limited by the camouflage. We take the masks off at dark, and during the day if rain is surrounded by the forecast and we won't be around to remove them. Also, if you're leaving a mask (or anything) on your horse 24/7, you really requirement to check him daily to make sure that chafing isn't occurring and that the curtain (or whatever) is in place.
I recommend the Crusader long nose mask near ears by Cashel. I use them on both of my horses who are out 24/7. I remove them at night, though, since they have fans contained by the shed that they stand in front of to keep the bugs at bay. The mask will come off if they get caught on something, so they are safe and sound to use. My paint used to sunburn, and with the mask, she never does. Both horses will stand and look at me like "aren't you forgetting something?" after their morning nurture if I haven't put the masks on yet. I can't speak to the visibility at hours of darkness, but Cashel company would provide you with that information.

P.S. Sunscreen alone was not effective to prevent sunburn surrounded by my pink skinned paint..the mask has been the solely effective protection to completely stop the problem.
your pony should be perfectly fine with that mask..they don't generally get it caught on things but if he is out with other horses they might play beside it and try to rip t off or he might rub it on fencing or trees or something..other than that it should stay in fully clad condition unless he is just one of those pony's who will not wear one.
i wouldn't suggest him wearing it at night...when we departed our horse on at night about 4 summers back he run through the fence and all 8 horses in that pasture be running around and some were injured..but we have small electrical rope fencing where they tore the barricade up so it was very difficult for him to see..i went rear legs there on a clear night and turned all the lights bad and put the mask on and couldn't see a thing!so i know this is how he ran through the paling because the horse who did it was terrified of the fence earlier he ran through it..but i suggest to take it stale at night or atleast test it and see if he can he clearly at dark with it.and if he doesn't like to wear the masquerade or tears it up then just put some sunscreen on him..he do this on our light skin horses for long trails newly to be safe..hope that helped =]
im sure it will be ok simply as long as he can see through it he will be ok
I have to answer this just because I love the answers from Azero and Shawnamb. How can you get better answers than from ethnic group who have actually gone out there and tried these things on. Good for you guys! Now to be precise lovin your horse wholeheartedly. I bet you've even tasted a horse treat or two. I love you guys so much. I too have always taken the mask off at night but figured I be just giving my horses a break. I have been agreed to feel a bit in my mouth and such lol (but true). You always spawn me happy Its a joy to see how much you love your animals. Thanks for making my day and coaching me something important.
yeah near pretty safe they just need to fit firmly so they dont flap around it shouldnt afect his fantasy and ur better to go to horseland or ur tack store and buy one that fits so if u need to return it u can
I would check on the horse periodically because the horse might get a piece of yap from a tree or weed wedged in or underneath the fly mask.

Also whether your climate is hot or humid, I find that my horse sweats lots more if you have a mask on. I devise I would take the mask off at dark for better vision. This is important. Hope these ideas help out you.
Our horses never had any problems with them apart from for ripping them when they rubbed on trees and fence posts.

As long as you check on him every day or two you shouldn't have any hassle. If he does get caught he will be strong enough to rip it to break free. The mask you've chosen is obedient though because it's smooth all over the front meaning there is a minimal risk of have anything to catch it on anyway.
It should be nontoxic. If they catch on anything they usually just come bad and then you have to go find them. We disappeared one on a mare 24/7 before and she didn't seem to have any trouble next to it. You might want to see about some sunscreen for him. The kind for babies is pretty safe.
Just a suggestion here-
Have you tried the sunscreen made for horses? I also have a horse that get a sunburned nose and I used to have one that would get sunburned around her eyes. I be happy with the way it worked, and I didn't own to worry about a mask.
If you want the brand nickname, e-mail me. It's out in the barn and I'd have to go look!
no they are not. not single are they bad but they make the horses look demonic.
Answers:    If the mask is one of the stiff ones, like this one looks from the pic, it can go and get dented in over the eye, touch the eye, and cause irritation of the cornea, even abrasions. If you don't arrest this quickly, it can be really bad.

At night, whether the pony is turned out with other horses who do NOT have masks on, he is predictable to be hurt because the others will not understand that he has only 20% fantasy (typically these block 80% of the light). If it's rainy or heavy dew, he'll be blind - or worse than blind, since car headlights, etc., will refract into a million prisms and terrify him at first.

They need to be removed daily to check for eye discharge, scratched corneas, and so on.

I would not do this. I've been in arrears sometimes getting down to remove my horse's, and he's walked right into me, not realizing I was nearby. He has eye problems, but eye discharge can get in the screening, attracting flies, obscure vision, and causing eye infections.
That would be fine in the day time I would take it bad at night.
I think that it is safe for horses to have fly mask on when they are turned out 24/7. That's what I do to my horses. I think that their vision is okay at night time beside them on. As long as you check the masks every one or two days, I think that it's safe for horses to wear them!
Can you provide horses.?   Rewarding horses near carrot.?   Where can i buy a nice horse?   How can I explain to whether my Horse is pregnant?
