Are in that simple ways to engender certain a saddle fits?
I don't understand why saddles don't come with directions on how to fit them. I was in the feed store the other time and the woman was so excited cause her saddle was so cush on her side of the saddle. When I said but does it fit your horse she said oh it will be fine and I said its so impressive and the lady behind the counter told a horror story of what happened when she used a saddle that didn't fit but whether I hadn't said anything she never would have mentioned it to the lady. I was just this minute given a saddle I loved it looked like it would fit but before I used it I took it down to the saddle shop to have it checked over and he told me to throw it contained by the trash as it was a factory saddle and I believe he said either it had no tree or adjectives the pressure points were wrong. Anyway how sad is this. How can they do that to horses and get absent with it. There ought to be a law. I guess I should have made this two question. One asking how to fit a saddle properly and two how can they get away with selling those terrible saddles and how can you know when you bought one. Thanks so much you guys. Theres so much to know thank God you guys share such important information.
Put some chalk dust on the underside of the saddle and put it on your horse. Take it off and look at the marks. Are they present on the horses spine? If so, the saddle is putting too much weight on his spine. These saddle should not be used.
You could also just put it on your horses back(no saddle pad or girth) and make your horse lower his principal. There should be space between his back and the saddle.
As for your second question, I don't know whether there is a way to tell! I am sorry that happen to you, but all I can say is keep to the more trusted brands. (Wintec, Pessoa, Griffin, etc.)
The reason you take lessons it to memorize how to ride, how to fit saddles and bridles among other things. When I'm training a student, I show them things about tack, different bits, saddles, etc. I also own them tear a saddle apart, clean it and put it back together.
I also drill them how to tell a piece of trash, equipment wise as opposed to a obedient saddle.
