Blanket Measurements?

Ok , I've been reading and looking at all the blanket measuring systems, but cant amount our what it means! what do the mean when the say,"where on earth the neck meets the center of the chest"?i really don't get it!

my horse is a 14.2 Morgan mare, and she wheres a "SMALL" halter size.

how do i method her?
Put your finger in the middle of her chest - you'll find she has two muscle bunches on the front of her chest - above these muscle bunches is where her collar meets her chest - her smooth throat glides right into her chest.

Under that finger put a flexible, cloth measuring tape - administer the other end to your friend.

Your friend needs to pull the measure tape out around the horse, parallel to the floor and measure how far it is to right between the horses butt cheeks or the middle of the tail bone.

In this manner you are taking into consideration the girth of the horse as well as the length of the horse.

If your horse measures a certain size - and I'm guessing this mare will run between 70 and 76 depending on how curvy she is - get a blanket as close to that size as you can get. Blanket manufacturers kind blankets adjustable. So let's say your mare measures 73". You likely will not find a 73" blanket. You'll want a 72" or a 75" depending on blanket make.

For example, whether the blanket you wish to purchase has an open front beside a buckle or two, it's an adjustable blanket for length. I sell Weatherbeeta blankets which may be considered a little generous. Weatherbetta stocks smaller quantity sizes, but they are more adjustable - so a 75" blanket should fit a horse between 73" and 77".

Hope this helps. If not - go on the Weatherbeeta website - or about any other big-name blanket businessman like Rambo. they should have diagrams about how to index.

Taking measurements for blankets can be tough. You should take your height starting in the center crease of your horse's chest around the left shoulder onto the horse's ribcage on the left side next around the left hip to the side of the tail making sure to get the fullest bit of the shoulder muscle.
If you're measuring for a "european cut" blanket you only have to calculate to the point of the hip. Most blankets are measured the first way I described.
I've found that Dover saddlery's catalog has the best illustration for measuring blankets. Stateline Tack's is also dutiful.
Here is a picture for you. The yellow vein is where you should measure.

put your measuring tape where on earth her shoulder and neck come together or near the center of her chest. And measure adjectives the way to the furthest point of her butt cheek. It won't be perfect but it'll work. If you know anyone with a similar size horse and try on their blanket. www.weatherbetta.com may hold a diagram for measuring blankets.
Answers:    When you are standing in front of your mare look at her chest. There are two distinct chest muscles with a bit of a crease between them. This is the place the measurement directions are referring to. Now, place the expiration of the measuring tape in that crease and run it along her body towards the tail. Make certain you keep it straight and tight. Also, make sure it measures over the biggest slice of her shoulder. The measuring tape will follow a bit of an upward angle from the chest center, across the shoulder, across the widest part of the rump, and to the center of the tail. This will be the blanket height. My horse is a 15.3 Arab gelding and wears about a 66" blanket.
Measure from the center of the chest, along the side, the the point of the buttock. Most tack catalogs have a drawing of how to measure.
When you measure for a blanket, start at the center of the chest, all the mode around the side to the center of the tail. That gives you the correct size you need to buy. Hope this help you.
