Bucking arabian Horse?
My 13 year old arabian will not stop bucking! not when im trotting or walking its when I canter/gallop. My trainer said to pull in her a tight circle when she bucks that sometimes works ,but she is still out of commission out. she wonnt stop! she is both western and english, she bucks more in the english saddle any tips?
So I prob. need more details to really help out you out, but here is my suggestion. when you canter or gallop you may want to keep your reins a little shorter, pretty taught, so she cant put her skipper down to get the leverage for a buck. When u said the english saddle makes her buck more you may want to cheek the size and comfort. Have you notice if she is angry when she bucks or excited/trying to play! If she's angry you may want to cheek her all over! for any discomfort. if its for play only hold on and give her a big kick like a BIG one and clear her go forward for a pretty long time until she gets tired! If your just a birth rider have someone else try that! and does she buck with anyone else or just you? any more Q's I'll try to look for you!! Hope it works out!!
Hmm, I would think she would delight in an english saddle but different stroke for different folks I suppose. I would try putting an english saddle on her then giving her a long-line or line exercise.
You or your trainer stand in the middle and she run around you, whether she bucks growl at her or yell to get her attention. After a few rounds if she doesn't do this, pet her and supply her a peppermint/carrot.
If she does do it, keep working her longer. Eventually it'll tire her out and she will learn what to do and what not to do. I believe she is just bullying you around, a horse that age know better.
Good luck!
Well, i would check for any discomfort at all, especially whether she just started doing this! when they are usually uncomfortable they throw their head, try to bite, or they kick. If she seems uncomfortable, TELL someone (vet/trainer)! Then sometimes you can remove the pain. If there is no pain consequently i suggest stopping the problem in the english saddle before you take on the lunge line or in a round pen. What i would do is put the side reins on so she can't put her head down low adequate to buck. Then if she still bucks on the lunge after that, i would push her forward at the canter. but if she starts doing bronco bucks on the lunge make her hoe. consequently get her to trot and walk a lot until she seem tired. then i would canter her again. if she doesn't buck, reward her. then achieve on her. if she bucks with you on her, you may not like this, but verbs straight up on 1 rein, only one,( this is supposed to bring their heads up) so she can't buck. then push her forward. whether she doesn't do it reward her. if she doesn't do it for awhile got the other way and repeat. stop when she doesn't buck for a long time!! Then try again until problem stops contained by english saddle, then do the same in the western saddle! Good Luck!
Sounds like to me that she is NOT elucidation that this is NOT acceptable. I know a LOT of you out there are NOT going to like what I'm something like to type, but I grew up with horses like this, working on a rent string to support my "habit". Next time your mare starts this, IF you are riding western and have a set of LONG split reins, snatch her principal up (Pull UP on the reins), then SPANK her (Over and under) with those long reins. This will work with a crop, but after the horse will suspect if you have a crop, she will have to act, but without one, she won't. Once you've snatched her head, spanked her, then put her spinal column into a lope again. If she tries it again, spank her again. She will get the picture that this behavior is NOT acceptable. Once you have her going apposite western, then try English again.
I own this same problem! He started it when i lunged him and now he tries to buck when i go into the canter but i catch him past he does it. I find yelling hey and pulling back on the reins will stop him.
Get the vet or the chiropractor out to check her pay for and to check for lameness, and get your saddle fit checked by a saddler. Horses often buck when they are in affliction. To them, it is getting the mountain lion off. It sound to me like a distress reaction that must happen only at the canter. It seem to me that is she just wanted you sour, she would buck you off first thing.
How long has she been doing this? is it something she's started recently? A couple things I would look at: first, she may hold an ovary which is causing pain - these are close enough to the top of the support that some mares will act up when cycling. Also - check the alignment of her back [horse chiropractic]. If she's out, it could cause plenty pain that she's trying to tell you about it thru bucking. Also - as others hold stated - check your saddles & blankets. There may be something which is causing discomfort. Btw- if her come first is up, she can't buck. You say she's trained english - just keep her collected, on the edge and in form - she can't buck. Rather than doing circles - drive her forward. Bucking is not moving forward [mentally as well as physically].
best wishes
very well if ur not falling off then shes prob simply being a horse. arabians r very excitable horses. and if u live within a colder region, shes just jumping for joy that its cold external =] just work her really hard at the walk and trot so she have less energy. when u get to the canter, only just be ready for it and if she does, just bestow a lil pop on the neck or, like ur trainer said, turn her in a tight circle.
Good Luck!
well its a mare right? u might want to put her on a hormone supressent. sometimes that help. my horse used to randomly buck all the time till we put on horamone supressent
If she bucks more in one saddle later it might be a pain issue. I would especially consider pain whether this is new behavior. I would call the vet out to evaluate her. Also, breed sure your saddles are fitting correctly.
Answers: The canter is a somewhat unbalanced gait and the fact that she is commonly only bucking at the canter AND in the english saddle, I wonder if it is a discomfort issue. I would try working her on the longe dash with no tack on or free longe her in a round pen. Get her to canter and watch her for any signs of discomfort resembling head shaking, bucking, or crow hopping. If she seems fine, tack her up and try lunging her again. Watch for the same signs. If she still act fine, you may want to have your trainer longe her while you ride. This will help you focus on your balance, posture, and form. I wonder if you are less secure surrounded by the english saddle and and bouncing or are off balance. The cure for this would be riding at the canter without stirrups or reins while on the longe string. If this is not the problem, you may want to have a vet out to check her out. She may need a chiropractic adjustment.
lol. my first horse was a Arab gelding and i actully broke my backbone and hip in result of him bucking at a canter. What i did to make him stop was i sit back in the saddle and kept his head dignified. Also i would get stern wiht him and the moment he bucked i would yell NO!
Als omy arab bucked me within a english saddle. id suggest riding western with her and also enjoy you ever seen the rodeos horses are very good at bucking within a circle.
Also it is a known fact that it is harder and imposible for some horses to buck with within head up.

though it is hard to tell near the cowboy in the way that horses topline is perfectly straight. In decree for a horse to buck they need a straight topline. If you keep her head up( should not be a problem for an arab since have there head high is a inbred head set to them) bucking will be harder to acheive.
Also, after breakign my back it was probably six months past i tryed cantering my arab again becasue of anxiety. I sense you are having some confidence issues yourself with this buckign problem. And i what i did to really turn my horses relationship near me around was Natural Horsemanship. I first tryed monty Roberts Join- up. then i did some paralli and after 3 years and me growing 5 inches i started using my own natural horsmanship methods.
You must overcome shock to ride an arab. Arabs are known to test your every move even if they trust you its jsut in attendance instinct. I hope this helped.
