Buying a saddle from ebay?

I am new to horses. I am looking at buying a saddle, but unfortunately I don't have a ton of money. I hold been using my friends saddle, it is a size 15 or 16. Im 110 lbs and 5-4. Is this a good size for me? Is ebay an ok option for a saddle? And whether so should i make sure it is a name brand saddle?
Good Luck in your saddle finding!! A 15 inch western saddle is about average. As far as brands, I prefer Circle Y. Remember it is always better to buy a biddable quality used saddle than a new cheap saddle. But plan on spending at least $700 for adjectives of the tack. Also like said above the saddle needs to fit the horse. It is not one size fits all but here are some paying special attention suggestions.

Western Tree Sizes

Semi quarter horse bars: Gullet size 6.5 to 6.75 inches depending on brand. Designed for high wither horses. Thoroughbreds & TB crosses.

Full/regular quarter horse bars: Gullet size 7 inches depending on brand. Designed for the standard quarter horse near broad backs and mutton-withers.

There are others too, but these are the most common.
Here is a good place to look for used/new saddle http://www.tacktrader.com/full_search.ph...
I purchased my dressage saddle on E-bay, and it did work out well for me. I had several advantages in that I know exactly what I wanted having tried indistinguishable model saddle before.

There are some risks to buying on E-bay, but those are the risks you take to get the reduction. There are some things you can do to minimize the risks. I will only purchase from someone who has at lowest 99% positive feedback and I will only purchase name brand items from manufacturers that I am habituated with. If you get something that doesn't fit, you cannot return it, but you can re-sell it on E-bay. You may get more or smaller quantity for it on the re-sale. To reduce risk, try to be as sure as you can on the size.

In short, while there are risks to purchasing on E-bay, you can seize a good saddle for a bargain price if you are circumspect.

As far as saddle fit, next time you sit in the saddle, put your hand down flat right at the rear your bum. If your pinky is at your bum, then your thumb should be right at the cantle. If your thumb hang over, the saddle is too small, and if it doesn't reach, the saddle is too big. You can determine the exact size of the saddle you have by measureing from the staple near the pommel to the top of the cantle in inches. That is the saddle size.

As soon as you get your saddle, own a saddler come out to your horse to check the fit. The saddler will be able to determine if the saddle fits your horse and will be able to customize to some extent the fit so that your horse can work for you comfortably.
The problem next to buying saddles unseen from ebay (or anywhere) is that you have to buy it before seeing whether it fits.

It must be fitted by a qualified saddle fitter or you risk causing the horse pain.
I would not buy a saddle from ebay...whenever you buy a saddle, you want to be able to try it on your horse past buying it and have an experienced saddle fitter make sure that it fits your horse. The most considerable thing about a saddle is that it fits your horse; if it doesn't, your horse will terminate up extremely sore.

I would look for classifieds or on www.craigslist.com for saddles for sale in your nouns so that you could try it on before buying.
As for the size, travel to a local tack store and find a saddle that fits you well. Then, if you must buy on eBay, try to find one similar, so you know that it's going to fit you. Make sure you read the wholesaler reviews and if anyone has said they did not get their proclaim, move on.
Ebay is in actual fact a really good place to but a decent saddle. and NO you do not have to enjoy a name brand saddle. They might look a little nicer but its all alike and you can get alot more for your money with a off brand kindly. I would go with a 16 in saddle. All saddle are different and you have find one that fits the horse too so make sure they own a return policy and CHECK THERE FEEDBACK! make sure they have worthy feedback b4 you buy anything
ok i think ebay is a good pick in fact i was doing like peas in a pod thing a couple of weeks ago! just make certain you send a few messages to the owners find out about condition size and type of saddle sometimes things aren't stated correctly just sort sure you know the exact cost and read the fine print talk to owner and defiantly check condition and don't forget around shipping cost!! =]
You may want to go to a local tack shop to make sure to be exact the right size for you.

As for buying on ebay - You can find great deals there, but be careful. Read the descriptions VERY in good health, ask the seller any questions you may have, and look closely at the pictures (look for worn areas and broken stitching). Make certain you know what comes with it. It may not be a good deal whether you have to buy extra pieces. Make sure you know precisely how much the shipping will be and what the return policy is.

Don't get caught up in the bidding process. It can be addictive. My boss walk in one morning super excited because he had just gotten ONE of the FIVE saddle he bought from ebay. He tore into the box like a kid at Christmas. I almost fell in the floor when he pulled it out of the box. It be a child's saddle !! No wonder it was such a good deal. Somehow he mis-read the size. And the best cog - he doesn't even have his own horse !
i bought two saddles off ebay my vat saddle its a textan it was regulary $2300 I paid $1300 so I saved a regal from buying it through ebay. and i purchased my english saddle off there my recomendation are to go to your local levy stores and try different saddles get the name and form of it then look on ebay. when purchasing off ebay MAKE SURE TO LOOK INTO THE SELLER! read there feedback etc... AND ALWAYS PAY THROUGH PAYPAL that route your money is guranteed for forty days so if you do end up getting screwed your not out any cash!! but intuitively I have never had a bad experience.
I HATE ebay. I know a few people that paid for items on there and never received what they rewarded for. If i were you i would try craigslist!! There should be a local craigslist site for your area. Google Craigslist (and type the town you live in) .Im sure you will find a saddle in attendance and the great thing is,You can actually go and check it out earlier making a decision, since its in your area.
as long as you're anyone cautious i'd say go for it! my saddle is from ebay and it's amazing, within great shape and super comfortable!

as far as the size of yours goes i think that size wold be fine.

for name brands it's not a huge treaty as long as you reasearch the brand first. for example i have a collegiate (with a really comfy deep seat which i resembling a lot) but i don't really care for say pessoas with generous of flat seats. so i'd look into the type of seat that that type of saddle usually have. you also might want to see if you want a closecontact or a all purpose saddle.

so overall i'm saying that ebay is a GREAT place to look lately make sure you know pretty much what you want and know a lot roughly what you might get so it all works out well for you.

and whether you need another palce to check usually local tack shops have consignment areas beside really nice saddles! hope this helps!
You shouldn't be buying a saddle at all, let alone from ebay. A saddle desires to fit the rider and the horse. It needs to have the correct tree size, form size, and width. With ebay, you can't tell if it will fit you or your horse. An in an unseemly fashion fitting saddle can cause lots of painful problems for a horse. It probably won't be too comfortable for you either. You involve a saddle that fits you and the individual horse. THat is why you shouldn't buy a saddle unless you constantly ride a specific horse. Saddles are also costly. A beginner won't know what to look for and they don't notice if the horse is contained by pain because of the saddle. This is why beginners shouldn't have saddles. We don't know what the horse's size is. Your size can be found by using the following links:

Answers:    If you're buying from ebay, next you'd best have someone knowledgeable helping you. I've bought several saddles from ebay and NEVER have an issue, but then I know what sort of questions to ask the sellers as all right.

You didn't tell us what type of saddle you're looking for, English or Western. However, by the seat size and your height, I'm gonna have a flutter and say Western.

You need to know what size tree your friend's saddle is and if it fits your horse. Full Quarter Horse Tree, Semi Quarter Horse Tree or Arab Tree.

Your best bet would be to find a saddle by a very well known maker. The others are normally cheaply done.

Look at Circle Y, Tex Tan, Billy Royal, Potts Longhorse (Who immediately owns Billy Cook).

Look at the ebay ratings on each seller and see how well they are prearranged.

Best of luck.
re ebay Buyer beware i hear a lot of populace not getting there goods
