Generally how much does it cost to own a wholesome horse? Per Year.?
For hay, shots, shoes, ETC. for one year? not including halters and such.
It depends on your area. In NY, it's $150ish per year for the dentist, $600-$1,600 for farrier, and $300-$1,500 for the vet. You should also have an secondary $1,000 for emergencies. That's about $2,000-$4,300.
AQHA's analysis turned up $1800 - $2400 per year for the average horse - not including training or special treatment a horse might inevitability. Say a horse that's come some slight unsoundness that takes a certain supplement or kind of support or if you have a horse and require professional assistance to interact properly, that's considered outside the norm.
But given adjectives costs of forage, grain, land costs, etc it runs about that. I can attest - I've done some analysis of my own and tracked my expenses for my horses the end 6 years. I have 6 horses, they run me between $1500 and $2000 each to feed and charge for. The cheaper ones are easier keepers, the more expesive require more feed and costs to keep them up.
It depends on where on earth you live...I live in Utah. I estimate it's around $300/month.
($8 bales) it costs me $3 in just hay per sunshine for one draft horse (not too expenisve)
i did the math a while back and came up with $120-$180 per month for 2 horses. (including hay, shoes, pellet, wormer)
and shots are only once a year. ($20)
sorry i can't add that up for a whole year... i freshly got out of PE class and im pretty much brain dead right very soon.
A friend of mine pays 354 per month.
Depends on where you live. We have hay baled locally here. If you have to hold it shipped, it will cost more. We also have graineries here in Texas. If you buy from a feed store, it depends on what type of nurture you are feeding.
to own a horse for a year cost a lot... your looking at about at between 2000 dallors 3500 dallors... you have to buy shots 2 times a year depending on the type... you will own to worm your horse at least 1 time every 2 months... and it is alwayz good to have your horses foot trimmed every month... let alone shoes it will cost more... for hay a ton will last about 6-7 months depending on how much you nurture your horse and how many horses you own... you are going to want to buy grain to.. thats about it... hope i waz a back.
It costs me about $800.00 for one horse. I own been very fortunate. Never have to call the vet out or see him for any problems. I think I might have basically jinxed myself. yikes.
Answers: It will vary greatly depending on many item. For me I can keep a horse for about $300-$350/year. However I own my own place I do about 99% of my own vet work (shots worming AI and adjectives the breedings) I can also do my own farrier work so that all saves on expense. My horses pay for themselves when it comes to training and showing so whether you will need that it will cost there too.
Your best bet would be to contact local hay farmers to see what hay is going for. Then your local co-op or feed store to see what polite quality feed is going for I perfer Perina products myself as all my show horses and even elder broodmares do well on it. Same with bedding if you can receive it in bulk it is cheeper but if now see how much a fruitless will cost in your area. Tipically will use about 3-4 bags/week. A ton of bedding (sawdust/shavings) will final the average horse about 3-4 months or so.
All these things you will be needing so best to find them now and see what the cost is.
4k-5k per year if your lucky. And you have them on your property.
I think there is a short answer to this question, because of the amount of variables. But I wouldn't expect profusely of change from $40 per week.
well i pay around 33500 for 4 horse including vacs foot and feed bedding ect plus field rent
If your horse is contained by 24/7 a small hay bale will last 1 day, or 1.5 at best. If he's out during the day consequently 1 bale will last 2 days, 3 at best.
One haynet is 3 slices of hay; this is half a bale.
Dentist visits are normally lb35 a time, every six months.
How about livery? Where will you keep the horse? Here's a breakdown for my TBxID (I chose him not my TB as my TB has remedial shoeing and other expensive mgt.)
Livery - lb172 a month = lb2064
Shoes - lb45 every 5 weeks = lb450
Worming - lb15 a tube, 4x a year = lb60
Insurance = lb880
Vaccinations = lb80 (lb40 phone up out, lb40 vaccs)
Feed - 1 x lb12 bag and 1 x lb9 bag each month = lb252
Supplements - Garlic at lb8 month, Biotin at lb9 a month, Feed balancer at lb18 a month, pro biotic at lb20 month = lb660
Bedding - Straw at lb2 a bale, 3 bales a week (I hold daily turnout) = lb72
Rug cleaning and reproofing = approx lb100 a year
Dentist - lb25 (we have a group visit so its cheaper) every 6 months = lb50
Hay is included within my livery.
Total = lb4668 - in reality it is more because I have my diesel to and from the stables, wear and gash on my horse trailer, diesel to and from the farrier, clipping/sedation expenses and of course any injuries/illnesses which require veterinary treatment. I budget about lb6000 for him.
If you don't livery them at a yard, don't assume it's free. You hold to plough money into paddock maintainance etc. Also, remember that you can't keep a horse alone!
The costs of shavings vary from place to place. In LA right immediately, a 5 cubic yard bag of shavings runs $4.00 from the shavings company and can run as high as $7.00 contained by a tack store. You also need sand, decomposed granite and sweet lime to keep your stalls bedded correctly. The sand and dg you'll have to beckon and get pricing on.
Then there's the additional costs:
Hay in CA right very soon is running $17.95/bale for 3 strand alfafa which weighs 100LBs plus. Oat hay, runs a couple of bucks cheaper. Your horse will need between 5 and 7.5 bales a month, depending upon how easy a curator your new horse is.
Shoeing (Which can run anywhere from $50.00 for just shoes in the front and barefoot within the back on up.) Done about every 6 to 8 weeks.
Trims: About $35.00 Once again done every 6 to 8 weeks.
Grain: Depending upon how easy a curator your horse is, a bag of grain will run you about $15.00 and bran around the same, once a month.
Vet: Now normally without any accident, once, twice a year for shots which run $40.00 per shot and the 'call charge' which can range depending upon your area from $40.00 adjectives the way up to $250.00!
Misc. Tack: This is the one that not only can get expensive, BUT addicting! You see something that your horse of late MUST have! DO NOT go to ebay! This can be VERY costly and addicting, trust me on this I have a friend who's still paying rotten credit cards from ebay horsey things she bought.
Having someone trailer or haul your horse with the cost of gas would probably be $2.00/mile nowadays...
Okay, very soon you have your catagories, work up a spreadsheet for your area and then see whether you can afford to own a horse.
