Herbal remedies?
Just curious, what herbs do most people use on their horse(s)? I know lavender oil is moral for relaxation, but what other remedies are there? and where can i get some contained by St. Charles, IL?
I am pretty lucky and my farrier has a lot of skill on this. As for what I use, I have only had to use 2 homoeopathic remdies and they are for backache and abcesses.
I used Arnica Montana for pain (in substitute of bute) and I used Hepar Sulphuris Calcarium to draw out an abcess in my donkey's hoof. They both work and they are natural products so they are not as dangerous to the system as chemical drugs. Of course, if my horse needs prescription drugs, they will be provided beside them.
As to where to find these natural homoeopathics, the local health food store is a accurate place to start!
Well whether you have a horse that is new or a moment ago unsettled in his/her environment and is nervous you can use a knife and scratch off some of the chestnut on their legs and make them smell it and it calms them nearly immediately. Also you can use a method called T-Touch. It's not really a remedy but it calms them. What you do is you embezzle two of your fingers (usually your index and middle finger) and run it in small circles on their skin. You can feel their muscles relax under your fingers. Also another peaceful remedy is blowing into their nose. This in horse language is sort of resembling a sign of friendship. Hope this helps!
I use bach flower remedies when my horse gets weird.. I'm not sure what the other ones are for. i don't live within illinois.
