How do you form a horse spin?
i want to teach one of my horses to spin, does anyone know how to teach/ make them do this?
yes adjectives you have to do to get them startedd spinning is once a day put a halter on them next to a lead rope and tie the rope to their saddle and put them in the pasture and they will start spinning on their own and after a while when oyu are on them you just verbs and they will start to spin
I saw a really cool lesson on this on RFDTV. One way, is you can start your horse walking contained by a large circle, then slowly walk surrounded by a tighter circle until the horse is "literally" pivoting on the front end (outside front foot over inside front foot) for one step, then walk your circle final out. Keep doing this, on both sides, and your horse will get the idea of "spinning" by pivoting on the rear legs and crossing over surrounded by the front. It takes some time, but I did it with my paint horse, and he was really getting the swing of it - and it didn't take very much time!
Answers: First and formost you need to remember that the turn or spin as you own refured to it is a forward movement and it is very important that the horse keeps moving forward. Using the railing to teach a spin can make them loose that forward movement. Rails work well to get hold of the horse to sit back on his hacks for a roleback but this is not realy what you are looking for in a turn. Circles are a much better approach to do it as it will keep the horse moving forward. Make him bend just the correct ammount and construct him cross over correctly. Also do not worry about what the rear foot are doing at first. That will come if you are getting the horse moving forward and crossing over correctly in the frount. Speed is not the most important member of the turn. Doing it correctly is the MOST IMPORTANT thing. Speed will come once the horse has the menuvers bassics down pat. I still slow down all my reiners within practice to make sure they are still solid in their fundamentals and these are horses near many NRHA year and awards and a lot of NRHA NRHCA earnings.
Other things that are earth-shattering to work on is making sure your horse can move off your leg and you can move every part of the horses body. This will minister to when you are not only asking for a turn but in lead change and so many other things.
Also remember that the turn is done on the inside rear foot so do not over flex the horse to the inside. When you are walking circles you should see no more then the side of his eye. Anymore bend next that will shift the horses weight to his outside foot and will mess up the trun. Once the horse learns the wrong entity it is really hard to correct him.
I've ALWAYS used the guardrail to START my young or green horses on how to spin. The reason for this is that it helps them seize their pivot leg down pat. You ride next to the rail at a walk, later ask them to back and when they are stepping on their inside leg, turn them SLOWLY away from the rail and by the expire of it you're facing the other direction.
I remember my first dressage lesson in the 1970's when my instructor asked me to do a reverse on the haunches and I simply picked my QH's front end up and 1/2 spun him. She looked at me and said, "Yeah, now SLOW it down!"...LOL
Start from the ground, make them revise how to do a haunch turn away from you, it take some time. Put your nail or the bring to a close of the crop where you would put your heel and apply pressure. As soon as he/she steps in the right direction release pressure. When your horse get it down pat when your on the ground, try it on top. The best spins nick time to learn, don't try to hurry or you and your horse will get frustrated.
