I HAVE A 8 MONTH OLD PAINT FILLY, ( BORN MAR.18 'O8) MY BREEDER SAID SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE 15-2 HH. WHEN GROWN?
SHE IS CURRENTLY 50 IN. AT THE WITHER , MY VET SAID,SHE HAS GOOD BONE SHE SHOULD GET BIG., MY FARRIER SAID SHE WON'T !, SHOULD I BE CONCERNED??!!, AS MY OLDER GELDING HAS ME SPOILED (HE IS 15-3 HH.)!!..HOW TALL IS NORMAL AT THIS AGE ?
Horses all grow and grown at different rates so I wouldn't worry what height she's standing at right now. If your breeder think she'll make 15.2hh she probably will. There's a formula for working out the final height for your horse though -
Measure from the middle (indent) of the knee to the bottom of the coronet trimming. Whatever that is in inches is what the height will be within hands, i.e., 16 inches = 16 hands. In other words this measurement is 25% of the horse's fully fledged height.
Hasn't ever been far wrong for me.
It is difficult to narrate how tall she'll get without knowing her bloodline.
I hold two paint mares taht I raised. Their ma is a TB mare that looks more like a racing QH - she's solely about 15 hands. Their pa was a 15 mitt quite stocky horse. Both of them are a good 15'3 almost 16 hand. If I had done my homework and looked at how big their grandparents were, I'd have expected larger horses.
anyways- a stock type horse will find the majority of their height at about age 3 I've spoken with my vet and a couple farriers who've get some education on horse physiology. All of them have told me a horse grows from the knees down until about age 2 - at two, their lower legs won't find much longer, they grow from about knees to shoulders from 2-3 when they have most of their height at the wither, after than they get taller by fractions of an inch but fill out until about 7 or 8. I watch the last two and they followed this pattern exactly - I measured their cannon bones at 2 and they haven't gotten any longer since afterwards (they are 5 and 7 now) - I measured and watched their upper legs after that and at 3 they were both about 15 hand (60 inches). My 7 year old is starting to really look like a tank - she's nourishing out a lot. Her full sister at 5 is about as big, so I expect the younger one to be much stockier.
So I would guess, unless your filly has exceptionally soaring grandparents that she might top out at a good 15-16 hands. I think your filly may be considered a bit soaring for her age - I'm thinking how tall my babies were.I've got one right in a minute that's 17 months - I can no longer put my arm over her withers so my armpit rests on her withers - so she's probably about 50 inches immediately give or take an inch or two.
I have duplicate issue,my paint colt is a year and a half and only about 14hh. Probably a bit smaller number. It think he was smaller than that at his age. I would say she will be in the region of 15hh but not much bigger. She'll just be a small horse like my own.
well...fink of it lyk dis...50 inch = merely over 12 hh.
soooo ur paint filly is 8 months old and is 12 hh [roughly as 4 inch = 1 HH]
i recon ur filly cud wel amke her full height. dont be disapointed if she doesnt tho.
put it this road i got told my colt wud make 15.2 and hes 18months and only 13.3 HH! lol.
adjectives u gotta do is memba dat a horse dont stop growin til der lyk 6/7!
up2 da age of 4 its pretty much height growin frm 4/5 - 6/7 its pretty much just fillin out.
just dnt be disheartened whether she doesnt make the height. but in certain she wnt be far off
good luck =)
Farriers know FEET.
Breeders know the horses bloodline.
The horse is Eight MONTHS old...she has YEARS to grow.
Proper nutrition and excersise play a role in her growth as capably as anything else.
Hi!! A lot of people hold this question. Take a tape measure and weigh from the hoof hair line to the middle of the horses kneene and it will give you an average on how elevated your horse will be.
Answers: Normal depends on her breeding. WHo her parents are makes a BIG difference. I have a 2 year old gelding to be precise 16hh and his brother was the same size at this age and ended up 16.2.
An infirm trick I learned from an old cowboy and it almost other is accurate: Take a flexible measuring tape and put the end up to the middle of your horse's knees (right at the center of the joint in front), extend the tape down the front of the cannon bone keeping it within contact with the leg the whole time and stop at the the coronet band. Whatever you carry in inches will be how tall she'll be in hand when full grown.
For example if you get 15 and 1/2 inches your horse will mature to 15.2hh.
I dont know about this question. My 1 year old still looks resembling the same size as she was when she was a newborn but taller. SHe still not tall yet really as her mom so im cerouse to.
