Inpatient horse tips?

hello,
i have this horse that's a TB (thoroughbred) mare and i have had her for a few years presently, and sometimes when i want her to stand till she wont... she just side steps and if i use leg aids 2 push her over it doesn't work, + she isn't really use to leg aids,
everyone says "tell 2 her" which i do but it doesn't really work.
also with the shows how the judge wants you 2 stand still sometimes.. i cant, how should i jump about this?
have you tried lunging her and getting her warmed up before you saddle up and ride her? i hold a horse that i have to put in the round pen and run the spunk out of before i return with on her simply to keep her from running out from under me... shes not a bad horse at adjectives - shes a standardbred which is normally bred for racing and thats all she really know is GO GO GO... so i put her in there give her a few minutes to bring it out and throw a saddle on her and shes fine - she settles right in! try that and see how she does... dont push her too hard and get her tired - a short time ago let her get her spirit out and she should be like "okay i carry what you want now im sorry i was just too wound up to see it before"... also doing round pen work should take her to respect you more and that can make a difference when riding as well... good luck!
For all the ones that answered to lunge her horse, lungeing a horse before you ride them to catch the spunk out only trains them that they need to run before doing any definite work. If lungeing is a must because you have a young or horse in training, you should renovation their direction every 1/2 of the round pen. By making them change directions frequently this will get them using their thinking side of their brains and tune into more quickly. I have this same problem with my 4 year old mare so I asked Clinton Anderson. He told me what I just told you and when I tried it the subsequent day I had her full attention ready to work contained by less than 5 minutes verses the 20 - 30 minutes of her running herself dizzy. What a difference this made for riding. Now that she know that running isn't what she gets, I enjoy no problem pulling her out of the stall and riding her without lungeing her anymore.

As for you direct question...If she doesn't want to stand still, make her move her foot at your speed and when she starts to slow down, move her some more. Make it so that standing still is the reward. It doesn't have to be severely tiring work. You can work on little things such as trotting circles or yielding her fore or hind quarters, Just save varying the workout so she doesn't become bored. Your goal is to keep her feet moving and her aspiration will be to want to stand still.
have you tried lunging?
getting energy out can assist ALOT
or maybe your not warming up long enough?
and lots of things can wreak too much energy food...supplements...ect.

but if its not energy later maybe she just DOSNT like standing still and you simply have to do it over and over and give positive reinforcement
my horse DOES NOT back up.so i know how frustrating it can obtain
she requests to learn to respect you.

practice standing on your yard (not tied up) with you at the running out of the leadreign, when she takes a step forwards, you need to take that step final by gently increasing the pressure on the headcollar and use your hand and gently push her stern to show that she cannot move just because she wants to, when she is standing still, give her lots of compliment stokes and pats. only do small sessions so her concentration stays up.

try doing lots of ground work to improve your relationship and cram to know each other. and once again give her lots of praise and recount her she is a good girl.

stay calm, otherwise she'll pick up on anything you find stressful, and she to will get stressed and glum.
Answers:    My horse used to do this too, there is nothing to do but practice, practice, practice. Then practice some more! lol Find something that works than save with it. Try cones, make her stand between cones (or poles) so if she moves she knock them over, she won't want to move! Try to stop, walk, stop, walk etc. Each time you stop stop for a longer amount of time.
It doesn't really help to in recent times keeping standing there because when you stand for a long time she will not want to hold still- you know that- when you walk AFTER she moves around its rewarding her behavior, instead YOU decide when to walk- BEFORE she moves. This will educate her that if she holds still she will get to move again, its not the end of the world, she in recent times has to wait for you. After a while she will probably figure out that holding still is a break from working, and close to it a lot!
My horse does the same thing. I don't show or nil, but he's worse when I mount or dismount, and when we stop along the trails. He just wont stand still.(I feel your pain) What I do with him is fixed repetition!! Like when I mount if he won't stand still, I will make him turn in a circle and when I right to be heard whoa or stand he should right? Wrong! I just keep this up until he stands, and eventually he gets it and will, but don't bestow in. I found it a little easier on trails. When I want him to stand still, I face him into a tree, and believe it or not it works for around 2 minutes. He has gotten a lot better, but not where I want him to be. Horses swot by repetition, so that's what I've been doing and I'm slowly seeing progress.
I would do a little bit of lunging before I would ride to get the outskirts off. Then when you get on don't ask her to go any where on earth, work on just standing. If she takes a step forward ask her to take a step put money on until she realizes that she can just stand still. Don't give up basically continue to try to keep her still. When she finally calms down and realize that she really doesn't need to go anywhere I would get past its sell-by date and call it a day. You getting off will be her reward for peaceful down. For a couple of sessions I would just work on getting her to stand still and not really working her. Take her into the middle of the arena to start off then once she finally can stand still contained by the center go to the rail and work standing still on the rail. Hopefully this will help out you, I've had to use it on my gelding. Good Luck!!
Get you a mammoth donkey they are the best! You won't want another horse.
