Is it okay to evacuate my horse out?
My horse usually stays in for 12 hrs. and is out in the pasture for 12 hrs. He stayed within his stall last night for 12 hrs. and was permit out for 12 hrs. today. I was wondering if it would be okay to head off him out for another 12 hrs. overnight? Will that be bad for him, or would he be okay?
Your horse should be totally fine... As long as there is nought that he could be injured on and no wild animals can attack him.
Don't forget mate he is a horse! They were built to live out side!
Is he alone? If he doesn't have a pasture mate, leaving him out adjectives night alone may not be a great idea. He will handle it, but it could be alarming for him. Do you have a shelter for him if he is out all dark? That would also be a factor, especially if he is alone. A lot depends on what his circumstances are. Wildlife can pose a significant threat to a lone horse, where on earth two horses may stave off any predators.
On the other hand, being out 24/7 is both physically and psychologically better for horses, and is suitable for them. If you feel he will be safe from predators and can find adequate shelter whether he seeks it, he should do fine. If he is alone, you could try waking up every couple hours to go out and check on him. I did that when I brought my mare here two days earlier the gelding came. She had never been alone, and be out all night with a run surrounded by. She acted somewhat afraid, and hid in a corner of the shed facing the entry, probably keeping watch. I don't presume she slept much all night. She was beside yourself when the gelding arrived, but those two nights alone were tough for her.
As long as the weather is not severe, the more turn out he has, the better it will be for him. My horses can be out 24/7 if they want. Stall doors are locked start so they can come in and out as they choose.
My horses are out 24/7 with a shelter if they choose to use it. Normally they don't. This past week we have temps in the 20s - 30s with freezing rain and snow. I expected they'd use the shelter during the precipitation but they didn't.
When temps are low it is imperative they have plenty of forage as digesting it keeps them heat.
You should also monitor. If they are shivering then you need to get them inside and blanket until they thaw up.
So it depends upon the weather conditions, what your horse is used to, availability of shelter/food and their overall health.
Answers: It will be fine to leave him out. Horses are generally happier and well again on turnout anyway.
As long as it doesnt get too cold, to the point that he isnt prepared for it, I don't see why not. If you live further north, and he doesnt have a winter coat, get sure he atleast has a blanket of sorts.
Otherwise I can't see why not.
He clipped? if he is, not short a blanket. If he's not clipped, and gets along fine with his paddock/pasture mates, move about on ahead and let the poor guy out, because no horse wants to be cooped up, they just put up near it because they are nice!! If it starts to get really cold out, then you should bring him in, because he is used to self in. And if the next light of day, he has bite marks, or excessive sweat, then he is not okay beside the fact that you changed his scedule. give it a shot, though. my horses are always external.
As long as it doesn't get really cold and here is a shelter for him to go under, he should be fine.
