My 16 year older Throughbred x Quarter horse is constantly nodding his principal approaching flys are bothering him but not?

He is nodding his head and throwing his head around constantly - whether just standing around contained by his paddock, eating his dinner, being led on his halter & when anyone ridden. He never used to do this and started about 3 months ago and it is just getting worse. Also when he is eating he sometimes throws his come first up really quick and it appears as though something is pricking his nostril's from his reaction - I have run my hand over his nose, mouth & nostril's with no repercussion from him.

I have a 9 year old Thoroughbred X quarter horse and he nods his director sometimes, sometimes he does it when hes really happy! or sometimes he does it to be rude, like whether ur trying to put on his halter or bridle then its bad behavior and you have to stop it by trying to hold his boss or give his buttom neck a tap. If he get scared then talk to him sweetly, but variety sure he doesn't Spook, my horse doesn't like his neck individual touch but its rude behavior so my coach tried to make him stop and he backed out of cross ties and run on a street. He's fine, but always careful!!
i think u should just phone a vet and ask
It could be allergies. For eating put some molasses contained by his feed or switch to a sweet feed that already has molasses. My T-bred have really bad allergies so we had to switch his barns so he was on grass. Don't stall him too long whether he has the option of grass or if you enjoy to spray his stall down.
Dont worry my cob does that its purely a silly habit she nods her skipper when shes going around in trot mostly dont worry theres nothing wrong next to that just a simple habit i know it can hurt your hands a bit becoz they hold noding but you get used too it and ova time they learn not too.
Good luck x

Answers:    My horse does the exact same thing. its nothing to worry roughly speaking.
Make sure your horse is getting out enough, next if that doesn't help, have his teeth checked. He might hold pain form a tooth.
Your horse is a head shaker, you should get your vet to check him out, this can be quite serious and within some cases the horses are deemed un-rideable,
My first thought would be that he is in pain for some reason. As horses go and get older they need to have their teeth checked more habitually. He may need his teeth floated. He may also have problems with his ear, (I know, sounds strange) but oodles horses that toss their heads have inner ear problems just resembling humans can have.
There is a neurological disease common in some Appaloosa lines that cause head shaking and I've seen a couple get put down because of it, so at hand may be something like that going on as well. I'd have a well brought-up equine vet thoroughly check him out just to rule out any kind of pain or neurological disorders, whether everything comes out clear there, then it is probably just a craving that he's developed.

As someone else said there is also the possibility of "headshaker". I knew a Irish Thoroghbred who did that and his owner bought him one of those Crusader flymaksks beside the nose cover, and he would quit "headshaking" as long as he was wearing that flymask.
