My horse is 2.5 months preg?
my appy mare is 2 and a half months into her pregnancy, she is filling out already and showing that shes preg, does this mean she could be have twins?
Yes, talk to a vet. Twins is very dangerous!
She really shouldn't be putting much weight on already. If she is, you may be feeding too much. Most fetal growth is in the closing three months of gestation, which is when you should really start seeing you mare get bigger. I don't know what you feed but you shouldn't really be feeding any more than she get when she wasn't pregnant. During the first 8 months there isn't much additional need for nutrients. I tend to offer a mare supplement for the entire gestation but I don't feed any extra grain or hay than they in general got. Once you reach the 8 month mark, after you should increase feed nutrients slightly.
But...If you haven't already had her ultrasounded, you should. Like others have said, twinning contained by horses is dangerous and you could lose your mare and foals if she does have twins. The initial ultrasound for twinning should as a rule be done at one month into the pregnancy. At one month, the vet can cause the mare to absorb the second departing only one foal. At two and a half months, I'm not sure whether this is possible because at 2.5 months is when you can have an ultrasound to determine the sex of your foal.
So have your vet out first for an ultrasound to hopefully rule out the twinning. If you find you're not having twins, only reduce her nutrients a bit so she doesn't become overweight. Just make sure she have enough for her requirements but not more.
Answers: the vet needs to come and ultrasound her.
twinning in horses is often unsafe. you could lose one or both foals and the mare!
You need to get the vet to ultrasound her to find out whether she is having twins. Twinning is rare in horses and can be enthusiasm threatening for the mother and the babies.
I agree that twinning in horses is dangerous, but If she is showing at ten weeks afterwards she is probably just getting fat and not having twins.
A foal does not start to put on any genuine size until the last third of the gestation period.
So I am calculating that she has gain perhaps 17.5 lbs
