My horse is slow. how to brand name him faster?
Its the weirdest thing. My horse is a quarter horse appendix meaning he is part quarter horse and thoroughbred. I trained him to run barrels and he have GREAT pattern but is a little slow. I've tried using spurs and over unders but he is still slow. I take him out to a paddock and let him go all out newly using my over under and he is eye tearing fast. Why can't I receive him to do that on barrels in the arena too?? I always give him full manager so its not bcuz i hold back on him. Alfalfa helped a little bit but how do i catch him faster and quick on his feet?
try leaning forward more - almost in jump position and... her might just ne claustrophobic?
I don't really know but try doing the barrels in the field and next gradully take him into the arena?
hope i helped - best of luck!!
I think you should practice with the barrels contained by the field. and if you do that and let him run and lean forward and talk to him then maybe you will see more speed. but it could also be he doesnt resembling being in a "small" space. Like racehorses, they will run on the track and fields but you put them within a ring and they will get all crazy. So practice in the area and if that doesnt work, then maybe he lately doesnt enjoy that.
maybe he dosint like to hit the barrels asdn the arena is probley smallish for him compared to the enclosed space so he likes to take it slow try i in ur corral
Both Lady Bug and Billy have great answers, but also work on your horse's trust within YOU.
Many times a horse holds back not because he's lazy, but rather untrusting of his rider-no offense(!!). Try building up his confidence and trust contained by you with smaller games and exercises-in and out of ditches, over objects, through buildings, during loud noices, etc at different gaits.
He might just requirements to know that your gonna be there to lean into those fast, tight turns to help him, though them :)
Ask your trainer/instructor for more specific deeds.
Maybe you're burning your horse out. You should never go all out surrounded by practice but maybe once a week. Over running can cause your horse to get bored and worn down. Second, you call for to practice running your patterns on ground that is nice, loose and soft. Turning on hard ground(even grass) can explanation irreparable damage to the joints and cause a horse to become sore. His joint may very well feel worn out by the time you net it to an arena due to your work ethics and work outs before a show.
You may also need to thieve into account that a happy and healthy horse is going to carry out better. Check with a vet to make sure your horse is nouns and healthy enough to be doing what you are asking. In the end- maybe the horse is nouns and just doesn't like running barrels competitively.
Increase his feed contained by take, but take him off sweetfeed whether thats what you're giving him. Enzymes may help, and you also need to learn how to in actuality ride with spurs.
Answers: You say he is speedily in the paddock and slow in the arena. Maybe it is just the surface that you do it on. A horse will pretty much other be faster on grass. Try doing exactly what you do on grass in the arena and your horse might see that he should behave the same contained by both environments as you do the same thing and you act alike way.

I don't know what kind of terrain your barrels are on, but I was thinking perchance he's more comfortable going faster when he has more traction or grip under his feet. I've see some barrel racing on tv, and it's always on dirt. consequently again, maybe he should be let loose more often, no riding or anything, tolerate him kick up his heels and let his hair down, so to speak. I know I relish a break from work every now and then.
