Pushy childish horse support please?
My young qh gelding i just purchased is extremely pushy. When he gets nervy he pushes his shoulder into me as a security. This is a huge problem since he is 15.2hh. If I smack him on the shoulder (just lightly) he bolts by me and kicks. He has already nail me in the thigh. I am very calm and do not smack him or shove on him at all. Can you help me out please? thankyou
When im governing a horse and the horse starts to get to close i hold my arm out to the side and and poke them with my finger they put a bet on off no poking. The ones here know now i start to raise my arm they merely move. I don't even say anything, i poke and keep walking. A controlled environment like a round pen sounds close to some where you should start.
Hi, I have an appy who use to be just resembling that. You just need to work with him on a organize rope. Be very forceful with him but do not hurt him. You need to agree to him know that he can be confident when your leading him and teach him that it is not ok to be in "your space". I enjoy found that when domino (my appy) did this, if I said quickly and firmly "off" and made him back up 5 steps briskly, let him stop and lick his lips (means he is submitting and thinking about what of late happened) and then carry on walking. do this as many times as you obligation to and practice stopping and staying whoa at the same time. If he doesn't stop after 2 more steps back him as quickly as you can. Just remember you mortal strong with him and having a confident voice is what he needs, he desires a leader. If you watch horses in the enclosed space you will notice them picking on each other. it is a game to see who can knock the other horse out of its spot. by him bumping you and later you smacking him even lightly you are playing the game with him and he requirements to play back. its a common mistake don't worry. Hope this help.
Answers: You need to stop this problem past it gets much much worse. I highly recommend round pen or lunge training! I have be working with a colt for 3 years now and he wouldn't dare run over me b/c I layed down the law. When you lounge a horse or work it surrounded by the round pen it lets the horse know you are the boss and they also learn to trust you. You have to regard as like an equine when it comes to teaching young horses. My colt be a little pushy too but a friend of mine who is a pro trainer told me to take a whip and every time I narrowly touch my horse on the side he should move away from pressure b/c that is considered respectful. If he does not move away next give him a small swat and tell him to move over. This again shows you are boss and in the horse world, whoever the ruler of the herd is will not ever be touched negatively by another herd member. My horse is unbelievably very respectful of me now and he has come a long method! I hope this helps and continue to stay calm when working near him but let him know you will not tolerate his pushiness!
Good luck! :)
A apt trick is to take him to the arena round pen whatever you have hang on to him on the lead line lounge line attain him to stand away from you shake the lead what you are wanting him to do is back absent from you every time he gets close to you it will help him become less dependent on you... it nature of becomes a game with him...
I would work with him staying out of your space, Showmanship is one thing that helps the horse to stay next to you and listen to you but not get in your space or overstep the 'boundary'. The best thing you can do is merely to work with as much as possible with a halter and lead rope, try to create situations contained by which he would 'spook' and have someone else there to help you
I would work on some roundpen ground work. Maybe he needs to be worn out a little bit til he can catch some good ground manners. I would try doing that. Every young or crazy horse I had this other made a difference. Young horses are fun when you make good progress. Im sure you will.
