Shipping a zebra foal?

i am interested in buying a zebra foal and was wondering if anyone know a good place i could go for shipping from idaho to new york. We found one place but it would cost around $2,800. does anyone kno a cheaper place or approach of shipping him here.

thankss !
I have see Zebras being rode. So it can be done, but just because someone has a Zebra doesn't indicate they have to ride it.
Anyway, it might be better to find one closer and pay a little more for it and smaller number for the shipping. I would contact a shipper and see what they say about shipping a Zebra. Just look on-line for a shipper, but be sure to receive references.
Good luck with that.
Shipping an equine of any kind across state lines, you're going to need a unenthusiastic Coggins test and a health certificate. I would assume that the dealer will provide you with these items before you ship?

I have a hunch that any commercial horse vanners you contact are going to charge a rightly hefty fee because they might be reluctant to put your zebra in a mixed load of other horses, which finances you pay for a solo trip. First thing I would suggest is that you ask the shipper you've already contacted why such a elevated charge, and perhaps also ask the seller if they can spawn a recommendation.

The answerers who said that Zebras are exotic animals and may fall under a different set of shipping requirements than horses are probably right. If I were in your shoes I'd be wary of anyone who quotes you like peas in a pod price as a horse would cost to ship-- you may find that after you've made all the arrangements and the day of shipping arrives, they suddenly hit you up with a bigger bill. A friend who used to work near exotic animals told me some shippers will pull stunts like that, figuring that on the hours of daylight you're supposed to ship, they've got you over a barrel.
Answers:    How much experience do you have with horses (mean ones)? I am a zoologist and can tell you that every year zebras take out more zoo keepers than all other zoo animals combined (including lions and tigers). They have a distasteful habit of getting angry at unexpected things and then grab a person by the arm or shoulder and then kicking and bucking until the handler is nothing more than a sack of broken bones. They tend to be much more bad tempered than other equines. The same goes for horse zebra hybrids (they seem to achieve the ill temper of the zebra).

A zebra is a wild animal and though you can return with them to act tame it takes a LOT of experience to know when they are give or take a few to cut loose their temper.

There are exotic animal sales that are closer than that.. why not check into one of those?

A fellow mule showing buddy bought a zebra foal and brought it to one of our mule shows. They are a different animal thats for certain.

One of their traits is.. if they like you, they push into you, so when that cute little foal grows up, thats not so cute anymore. Plus they bear teeth whether they like you, weird I know. But it was really interesting seeing one up close and personal.

They can be trained, next to great difficulty and never dependably unfortunately. The one these ppl bought was purchased solely for breeding purposes.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.
I thought zebras were so wild that they were not competent to be tamed? What do you want a zebra for??

And yes, I know there is a lot more to New York than NYC!
Sorry to brake it to you but Zebras aren't trainable... They are very general public shy and even if you bought a foal, it doesnt mean that it will come up to you everytime he/she will see you. you probably can try training it but they always revert subsidise. Plus they're not ride able because once you get on you'll be on the floor. I don't think that horses and zebras return with along, they might. What do you want a zebra for anyway?
Just carious what are you planning on doing with the zebra? Are you planning on riding her? Because agree to me tell you from experience they do not make a very comfortable ride.

As for the shipping cost I do not mull over you are going to find anything cheaper than the $2,800 especially this time of year. Better get a shipper that will cost a bit more but take perfectionism of the animal then a cheap shipper who will haul the whole opening without taking time to give breaks.
THAT IS SO FECKING AWESOME! can i come over and play with it? and also I don't know, just don't lose it in long grass, next to it's camouflage and all, that would be sad to see a question from you dictum."I think I lost my Zebra in the field somewhere"

you rock COOL BANANAS...but hold you thought about the possibility of it being stolen.oh and you so own to go for a ride down broadway!! ahaahahahaha
Cool, there is one local here for sale but i couldn't spending 6 dignified for a pet right now. Im trying to remember but i think about 6 or 7 years ago i be going to buy a Paint colt that was going to be moved from NY to California, it was 1400 then. the price you be quoted is twice that much. With the way things are it may be about the price you'll get from most inhabitants.

How the * are you gonna take care of a zebra contained by new york? I don't think thats legal. You stipulation to read up on it some more.
I would contact local officials and make certain that you do not need a permit to have an exotic animal resembling that. You won't find shipping cheaper anywhere else. What do you need a zebra for?!
