Support...polo wraps...boots?
someone said that boots and polo wraps support the tendons by limiting how much they can "stretch" does anyone know HOW it limits this?
The work the same as something like an ankle brace would work for a human. They add additional support like an ace bandage would.
I know Professional's Choice boots have a fetlock strap which if truth be told reduces the negative impact which occurs when the horses hoof strikes the ground...boots also stretch a touch which allows for natural movement, but also prevents over-extention...Some people say that boots are more for our piece of intellect than the well-being of the animal...but I think they are worth putting on...I would say that Sport boots offer a more even support, because next to Polos you have the chance of not having even stiffness on the wrap...
Answers: Think of a tendon as being lots of fibers adjectives bundled together vertically along the bone of a horse's leg. During concussion, vibrations travel along each fiber. When a shock force comes, as during a landing on a jump, those fibers are already being stretched longer as the hooves hit the ground and the fetlocks come down. Each fiber is also practised of expanding sideways at the same time as the shock force is disseminated along the tendon. Support wraps or boots can limit that sideways expansion, or stretching, even though it doesn't inhibit the vertical stretching to accommodate the joint flexion. The tissues are being compressed to limit expansion, and expansion amounts to more stretching. So, the tissue is more stabilized. Again, though, surrounded by order to get them tight enough to hold this effect, there is a risk overcompressiong areas of tissue and causing damage. nearby is a fine line between supportive and harmful.
