and how and where do u put them on?
Definitely a martingale keeper, not rein stops. Keeps the martingale placed properly - woe betide the student of mine who thinks I won't consideration that they forgot to put theirs on!
Sorry Rhi.. rein stops look like this:

BM: The grounds these are 'big and bulky' is because the item you show encircle the martingale neck piece, as well as the strap the runs from girth to their head. This would be used for a standing OR running martingale. See where on earth the leather instersects on this photo

It's *very* difficult but you thread the neck collar through the rubber, then thread the standing or running attachment through afterward.
Answers:    I've never heard them call that before but never mind - it's a very strong piece of rubber that attaches the two parts of the martingale together and stops them from sliding - resembling this

As you see it fits on crosswise to brace the two parts. Anything smaller or less strong would probably break. ( They are great fun to put on as well - !)
If you ride with a martingale you put those things onto your reins to stop the martingale rings from running down to the bit.
Martingale stoppers stop martingale rings from sliding down to the bit. They stretch and go over the reins. Some reins come near them pre-attached.
