What bit should i use for my quarter horse?

he used to be involved in western riding, i used a regular eggbutt snafffle but he doenst like it
a tom thumb snaffle and the checks bit only half coz there pretty fitting but amke sure the cheek bits arnt pulling on the cheek coz that can be very uncomfterbal

but never know =]

im a english rider so not completly sure but i love this bit ive be on a few western horses with the same bit they respond good to it
If he was trained western chances are (if he is historic 3 years old) he is used to having a curb bit. Try a kimberwick type bit, but make sure that the bit act like a curb my favorite is the Mylar level 3

Also try different types your horse might like a solid mouth piece next to a lot of weight and others like a swing shank and a lighter substance. If you know somebody who has a lot of bits ask to play around with different types, metals, and weights and see where on earth you come out I know a local tack store that will let you take the used bits for a spin you might have one surrounded by your area... it never hurts to ask or they might have a relaxed return policy as long as it's within a time length and clean.
Answers:    some horses do not like a broken mouthpiece. It can be much more severe than society realize. A snaffle in the wrong hands can be painful and a tom thumb is even worse.

I would try a simple grazing bit near shorter shanks. The mouthpice is solid and will have a little "bump" for tongue relief, or you can even gain one that has a little roller in contained by. You have to use these with a curb strap. They work differently than a broken mouthpiece, in which you can steer near one hand (neck rein) instead of the direct pressure of using two hands.

There are literally hundreds of bits out there designated for western use. Perhaps you know of someone that will allow to you borrow a bit or two to try formerly you buy one.

Good luck and have fun
I would use a D ring snaffle with copper rollers on it. With the copper your horse will create more saliva, making it more comfortable on its mouth.

I don't recommend using a hackamore. If in the wrong hand they can be very severe. They focus on main pressure points, so you must be experienced in decree to use it. Also it must be fitting proper.
When you say he doesn't like it, can you be more specific? Knowing how he behave in the bit gives clues to where the problems fake.
I love the argentine training bit because it have both a snaffle and a curb on it. You can switch out whenever you like. Good luck!
try bitless,,,
a correction bit thats what I use on my horse and she luvs it
Depending on how old your horse is depends on what kind of bit it requests. I have a 5 year old who i plan on showing. She was broke this summer, and uses a twisted copper snaffle. (She prefers the copper taste) IF you plan on showing your horse cannot be surrounded by any type of snaffle if over 5 years of age. That is if you show western. I would try a curb bit. Many horses prefer different tastes of bits too. My horse does not resembling the silver at all. Good luck!
tom thumb snaffle might work, or try a hackamore
