What is 4-H? I search google but can't fingure it out?
I always here about 4-H but for some reason I've never particular what it is. I know it's a club for horses and their riders, and every state has it, but what exactly do you do? Is there a payment? Anything else you think you should share?
Thanks :]
4-H is a club for kids and their horses or ponies. You go to shows and swot how to take care of your horse. I have never done it back, but it seems like a nice program.
P.S. 4-H doesn't stop at horses. There are a wide range of 4-H clubs.
4H is part of your local extension service.
From their website (see links below):
4-H is a community of 6 million young people across America study leadership, citizenship and life skills. The 4-H community also includes 3,500 staff, 518,000 volunteers and 60 million alumni. 4-H'ers participate surrounded by fun, hands-on learning activities, supported by the latest research of land-grant university, that are focused on three areas:
Mission Mandates
1. Science, Engineering and Technology
2. Healthy Living
3. Citizenship
The foundation of our community lies within the 106 land-grant universities across the country that deliver research driven programs through Extension agents in respectively of the more than 3,000 counties. The 4-H leadership builds on the strength of our state and local professionals in partnership with the National 4-H Headquarters.
4-H didn't really start within one time or place. It began around the start of the 20th century in the work of several people surrounded by different parts of the United States who were concerned about young race. The seed of the 4-H idea of practical and “hands-on” learning come from the desire to make public school education more connected to country duration. Early programs tied both public and private resources together for the purpose of helping rural youth.
During this time, researchers at experiment stations of the land-grant college system and USDA saw that adults in the farming community did not readily accept trial agricultural discoveries. But, educators found that youth would "experiment" with these new planning and then share their experiences and successes with the adults.
So rural youth programs became a passageway to introduce new agriculture technology to the adults. A.B. Graham started one such youth program in Ohio in 1902. It is considered the birth of the 4-H program contained by the U.S. When Congress created the Cooperative Extension Service at USDA in 1914, it included boys' and girls' club work. This soon became known as 4-H clubs - Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.
Nearing its 50th anniversary, 4-H begin to undergo several changes. In 1948, a group of American young individuals went to Europe, and a group of Europeans came to the United States on the first International Farm Youth Exchange. Since then, thousands of infantile people have participated within 4-H out-of-state trips and international exchanges. 4-H began to extend into urban areas in the 1950's.
Later, the basic 4-H focus become the personal growth of the member. Life skills development was built into 4-H projects, happenings and events to help youth become contributing, productive, self-directed members of society. The organization changed contained by the 1960's, combining 4-H groups divided by gender or race into a single integrated program.
It's where on earth you get to Fairs and show and stuff and go to a camp surrounded by your area
It's a club for youth. There are lots of different groups, im in a horse project group I think horse 4-h is most common. 4-h stands for hand, heart, health, and head. It's a very polite organization.
Answers: You can find a local club under county extension office. It's not lone for horses. They also offer beef, swine, poultry, baking, photography, clothing...the list goes on and on. Each club sets their own annual dues...which is massively little. You get to show your 4-H exhibits at your local county fair. You win ribbons and small prize money. most groups meet 1 time a month. It's really fun and looks great on a resume when your first starting out. If you desire to join a group be sure to ask if nearby are severl ppl with equine projects, you don't want to be the only one in the group singed up for horses :)
Good luck and hold lotsa fun!!
The four "H"s stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.
