What is a apt sized arena?
We have about 2 1/2 acres of pasture and we are wanting to put a decent sized arena within it. I want to know what would be an estimate of the dimensions of an arena to fit this area and still have atleast an acre left of pasture. (we enjoy other pasture, but this is the flatest) It has to be good enough to canter and set up jump.
Thanks
100ft broad and 250ft long is what i've been told.
At my old riding place, their arena was a standard 20m x 40m and you could canter right around the inside, set up jumps around the wall column and in the center. That's a standard sized arena down here but you could go bigger with a 40m x 60m. That would hand over you a whole lot of space in and out of it still. I'm pretty sure that's the size of an Olympic arena down here surrounded by Oz.
If you place the arena off to one side you will still have plenty of room to move around it and the other space for you to do whatever within, i.e. more jumps, lunging etc.
Hope that gives you an idea. (:
Answers: 60X120 ft is standard, but bigger is better in my opinion, and if you're going to leap it pretty much has to be bigger. I think that more than one arena is good, so that you can own jumps set up in one, but if someone wishes to do dressage or something you don't have to move all the jumps, you could also hold lessons in one arena and other riders wouldn't interfere. Even if two arenas are side by side its better to hold two, probably one bigger and one smaller. So as big as you can make them and still have pasture room. Indoor or covered arenas are also a plus, especially whether you live someplace where it snows or rains! What is the weather like where on earth you are?
