In the wild they would usually get through tree bark and sometimes dirt (yes dirt) if it had traces of copper. There are probably plants/weeds near small traces but you'll notice all the trees in a pasture are chewed up when the horses/cows are scarce in minerals.
If you are looking to supply your horses with extra minerals (most commercial feed should supply CLOSE to enough), use a mineral salt block.

naturally horses can get copper from nibble on tree barks or from some plants, but you're probably better off getting him a copper injection which can be administered orally to ensure hes getting it for certain
