What is some cool tricks i can train my horse?
ok so i have my horse fantasy she is 12 years old and i am trying to surmise of some more things to teach her but nothing is coming to me i just want to know some fun things to do within my spare time this winter being that i live in minnesota so its not so easy to ride within the winter and i hardly ever go out in the winter...
you could instruct her to lay down so you can get on her... i have absolutely no hypothesis how to do that, but i've always wanted to teach my horse that!
I use clicker training to teach oodles fun things..Check www.clickermagic.com and www.aclickisbetterthanawhisper for really great ideas. Clicker training uses an audible sound to mark the moment you see the desired behavior, and it help you to shape more and better (flashier) movement and training. It works as a good addition to what you are already doing with the Parelli stuff.
My horse fetch, plays soccer, plays basketball, bows, gives kisses, throws kisses, opens a mailbox and gives me the contents, honks a horn, and this winter we are working on the Spanish Walk. If you can dream up it, and if your horse likes treats, and you are skilled enough to memorize from a book and a few videos (that's what I did) then the sky is the limit for what you can initiate.
The added bonus is that your horse will become so excited to do anything with you, that she'll whinny when you walk into the barn, and volunteer lots of fun new behavior.
Answers: i've other wanted to teach my horse to bow, rear ON COMMAND ONLY (that little devil), smile, purloin off my hat, lay down, sit, swim (wish we had a water close to the barn...) shake and nod her head... lots of things, check out a book store for Trickonometry, it is a great book for teaching a horse tricks.
I taught my horse how to give me hugs and kisses. what i do is travel by the side of her with a treat and hold it between my chest and belly button, then she would freshly hold her head there after like a big hug. kisses are somewhat bit harder. I had to get her to bring her head up (which is a chance thing i know) but then i would go for a kiss right above her proboscis and she would bring her head down and let me kiss her right between her eyes. it looks so cute! another thing i qualified her to do was bring her nose all the instrument back to where the stirrups would go(this makes it comfortable to bring their heads back for treats while you are riding. i would make her bring her pave the way all the way back near a treat. then give it to her right before she could receive it give her a good pat, the treat, and make her do it a short time farther back. but when you get on you can drop the reins and rub the treat all the instrument down their neck then grab onto the mane (in 2 point position) and say aloud treat, then make her bring her head rear legs.
these are really fun, so try them out!!
Teach her to ground tie. this is a massively functional thing for her to know, and will give you something useful to guide her in your spare time over winter. If you are already working on Parelli, then you probably have started on the helpful of ground work needed to teach this. It is a lengthy explanation, so if you don't hold a book or DVD that outlines how to do it, post it as another question.
There are so many things that you can school your horse to do. I use Parelli so I've taught mine tricks that go along with the Parelli system. Some things that I've qualified my horse to do are letting me hold his tongue, following me, flying lead changes, point to point, and a lot more.
i feel ya- i live around the same place. my friend taught his horse to lay down & roll onto its side along next to to lay down so he could get on. If you're going to do this though, I'd look into it more first so you don't hurt your horse. Also, my neighbor taught his horse to shake its head no so when you right to be heard its name its starts shaking back and forth lol. reeeaaallly funny.
you can try to tutor your horse how to skip
