LOL HEY PPL ITS ME THIS IS MY QUESTION UR ANSWERING BUT I CANT GET BACK ON THAT ACCOUNT THIS IS MY NEW ONE X
ALSO IVE GOT HER ON A CONTINENTAL ONE WHICH ARE EXTREMLEY GOOD ON THE MOUTH FOR BRAKES BUT ILL TRY SNAFFLE X THANKS PPL X
If you already know she is gonna be crazy when she gets in the field consequently it might be smart to get either a dutch gag(and use it with two reins, so you can generally use the snaffle "rein" and if necessary you can use one of the lower rings). Same for pelmams, gag's, etc. Anything with the "option" is flawless.
By option I mean like you use two reins and the top rein is close to the snaffle, giving it a snaffle function and then the lower rein is attached to a ring lower than the snaffle giving you the option to use the lower ring if obligation be but you can mainly use the snaffle ring.
Hipersonhello: No "hunting" like fox hunting.
what bit do you currently use on him?
I've heard great things about dutch gag. :]
really depends what bit he's in right nowe and what you expect you'll need - more brakes?? better steering?? etc. depending on what's he's currently in i'd look at dutch gag, a butterfly pelham but with a mullen mouth and leather curb or (if he's currently wearing a bit that's stronger than a snaffle) try a pelham bit with roundings. make certain you have a go with the bit beforehand the day to see he's not going to object violently to it!! most saddlery shops will own you breeches to be honest - best to go to a shop so you can try them on - through mail order the size may not be right etc. thrilled hunting!
wot is your horse like within open spaces with other horses. if it buggers stale when you hack out with a couple of friends then your gonna need more than a stronger bit. my hrse over took the huntsman an whipper within amn believe ,me that is not acceptable! i ride mine in a dutch gag as its a unbelievably versatile bit but DO get your horse used to it before foot as if you normally ride in an regular snaffle it may take it sometime to get used to the additional pool pressure. a kimblewick is another right bit especially one with a portedmouthpiece as it applies pressure at poll, mouth corners, roof of mouth an chin coz it has thecurb cuff.
Most of my horses are truthfully strong and i hunt them in pelhams and dutch gags. If you are currently using a snaffle, you could try something that would add some poll pressure, similar to a hanging snaffle or maybe a waterford snaffle? They stop the pony grabbing the bit and taking rotten. Just try a few bits at home. I wouldnt suggest going for anything to strong, but when out hunting go beside someone on a quieter well behaved horse and keep out of the course if yours gets strong. For example if you can see that adjectives the horses are going to gallop then just pull a left/right rein and stay on the outskirts because whether they gallop up behind you then you have no hope of stopping. enjoy fun.
Do you normally use a snaffle bit? I usually ride mine in one and we go hunting for the first time a few weeks ago.
She was fine in the snaffle, I just made certain I had her martingale on and a crop with me cos she was messing around a bit at the start.
I'd stick next to it, unless you know she's going to lose her brakes in which case I'd try a 3 ring snaffle with the reins surrounded by the 2nd or 3rd ring.
Try your local saddlery for jods, they should have some. or if you're ordering online I really resembling the toggi jods, super comfy. nice and warm.
Most of all have fun!! and for any anti-hunting inhabitants who give you abuse, ignore them!
hunting like hunter..? well a d ring snaffle would work.. i surpose i approaching copper mouth bits or the ones with lttle thingys in the middle that the horses play with..and you can return with jodhs from the tack shop!

Answers: I just answered your other question, and I really cross-examine the wisdom of your going hunting when your horse bucked and galloped away from a single log on the ground. I reflect on you should solve your issues with him first and simply changing bits is not a solution. Also, I make it a point to never try out hot tack away from home. You never know how your horse will react. It may form the situation worse.
