STANDING OR RUNNING??
well is your horse fast or slow
First off know what you need, then swot up how the equipment works, then see if it will aid you in solving the problem. I'll relation a wiki explanation of using/fitting a martingale in the sources.

A martingale is used to prevent the horse from throwing it's head into the rider. The standing martingale is fixed given the rider no control over the height of the chief once mounted. The running martingale gives the rider the some ability to pull the organizer down but also allows the rider to chose to give the horse their head back, which it requests to clear a jump, but because it's fixed to the reins it also gives some control problems. Do NOT jump a horse beside a standing martingale, the horse will not be able to properly round their back over the jump.

If your horse doesn't throw his guide into your head, I don't see a reason you would need a martingale and considering your not competing surrounded by sports with highly exited horses where some scope of head control is needed(like show jumping or barrel racing) I don't see why you can't a short time ago work with lowering your horse head by working him in frame.

If your have need of for a martingale is simply because you want to follow fashion, or seem more professional, go next to the running martingale, but be warred that any professional trainer or riders, will have a little giggle at a horse beside low head carriage and a martingale, I know I do :)
Answers:    Standing is more restictive and isn't as out of danger as a running. Running allows more freedom of the head in case of an calamity. I would go with the running. It's safer and less restrictive, so horses tend to resembling it better too.
Neither. You don't need a martingale. Identify the reason why you are considering the use of a martingale, and then work on the training of your horse and your hand that you are trying to replace with the martingale.
You don't need a martingale a short time ago because. If you need one to keep your horses head down, which is what they be designed for, then you should first turn to your skill, you keep a horses head down by keeping them contained by a frame and you do that with your hands and legs. But if you HAVE to enjoy one for whatever reason then I'd voice running, it is less restrictive. But when adjusting it make certain the rings are parallel to the horses wither.
