Worming my horse.…
i wormed my horse with 'mectin' wormer,
then three weeks later i get accepted into horse agistment and i had to worm my horse again, so i wormed him with the rotational wormen from mectin.
in a minute 2 and a half weeks on the horses are rotating paddocks and all the horses have to be wormed again.
is it unpromising for him in any way hat i enjoy to worm him that much in such a short time.
that does seem excessive. And honestly Im not really sure. I would propose calling your vet and asking him/her. That would be the safest thing to do. I am a vet tech but the vet I work for doesnt see horses. I have horses but Ive never wormed that close together before. Call your vet and ask for certain
Multiple studies have been done on this subject. Huge overdoses of dewormers such as ivermectin have be administered with zero negative effects measured by extensive trialling. There is far more risk to your horse's health by allowing larvae to survive and grown in your horse's body.
No
It should not hurt him, just look for another rotational paste. The paste kill parasites that are in the horse at the time, and they can immediately pick up more. It does seem to be excessive to me also, what a pain.
Answers: Worming horses without checking their worm burden first is tremendously bad practice. You could talk to your yard going on for carrying out faecal worm egg counts to identify exactly which horses need worming and when. Overworming is dangerous because it can at a rate of knots select for resistant worms, and those worms then multiply very fast so you call a halt up with a situation where the wormers stop working. Have a look at the blog part of my website www.soloequestrian.com for an article on hot thinking on worms and worming - the idea now is that having a small worm burden may be more decent for a horse than having none at all. Liverpool Vet School also have a really fitting site on worms and worming - put 'diagnosteq' into Google and you will find it.
