11.2hh welsh stocky pony. Is 8 and a partly stone too creamy?
8.5 stone is just less than 120 pounds. 11.2hh is 46 inches.
I trained a number of ponies that be from 40 inches up when I was about 5' and 100 pounds. I don't think your pony will own any trouble carrying you as long as you aren't riding her too fast or too hard. You will need to wages attention and not get her too tired. You might also want to look into getting her broke to drive. Then you can get old and lubricant and still use her:-)
I do think that if you get her into condition and are wary with the work load you can enjoy riding her minus worrying about being to heavy for her.
And whether you've never considered driving her I really would look into it. Driving can be a lot of fun and you can get into competitions if you want. Most ponies love to be driven.
Provided she is fit and full-bodied, and not too young/old, she should be comfortable carrying 20% of her bodyweight. I would think she'll weigh about 220Kg, so 20% of this is 44Kg. Her tack will weigh around a stone, so this takes the overall mass up to 9.5 stone, and if the rider is a novice they will sit heavier. I always attach a stone on for a novice rider as they sit heavier on the horse's back than an experienced rider who can carry themselves better.
9.5 stone = 60Kg
10.5 stone (novice rider) = 66Kg
So yes, 8.5 stone is too much for this pony. Even lacking tack (though you sit heavier still as you cannot carry yourself off their back) you are 54Kg, which is still too heavy. This is a child's pony, requiring a rider below or around 5 stone.
lol not really welshs can fetch alot of weight if u ride her thru the week and give her days bad it would be cool or u can part lease her liek someoen lease her for 6 days and u get to spned some time with her asweel =]
later that way u cna still keep her but have anther horse
Its suprising how much freight a welsh pony can take, just look at the pit ponies they used in the mines, they would verbs real heavy loads. I think your shipment is ok but i would try and stay at that weight.
If your buying the horse you might wana take into consideration that in a couple of years you may outgrow him (depending on your age)
Have fun :]
Answers: I agree with Midnight's calculations as working out how much your pony can carry. However, a welsh pony of 10 - 12hh should weigh between 225 - 350 kg. As your pony is on the larger side of this capacity I would conservatively say she weighs about 300kg. 20% of this is 60kg (9stone 6). So near tack you should just about fit into her ideal cargo limit especially as you are an experience and balanced rider. Try to avoid riding her too long or rock-hard to be on the safe side and if you gain weight after you should check her weight more accurately. Either use a weight tape or use the attached which tell you how to calculate it. Then you will know for sure whether you are fine.
Carry on enjoying your little girl whilst you can!
