As like horse shows, you can nick you horse to different places. Ask around before horse show season starts and see if you can drive at their place, sometimes there is a payment involved, but it's worth it. You can also go to parks, if they allow horses, and drive around there.
Even whether you do not want to take your cart or carriage, a short time ago take your pony and ground drive them around. Easier and faster to do, and if they have primary problems they're not attached to the cart.
You should also probably do some prep. So, shine them up, bath if possible and do what you would do for a show, next take the pony somewhere. This way, the pony knows that this would be the routine.
One more tip, you could other take your pony and not show. Just let them look, be there, hear adjectives the noises and see how they take it. I try to take adjectives my babies to shows even just to go and be there so they can see adjectives the other horses, noises, and stuff.
Good luck. Hope that helps.
Answers: The one thing I've seen that has hurt placings more normally than anything else is cleanliness. I've noticed a number entries that would have done better if they'd salaried more attention to cleanliness! You need perfect turnout to place high. Clean your harness after every course. Clean your vehicle after every class.
The other thing I often see is a pony that isn't ecstatic in the ring. Ponies that enjoy their work place higher than ones that don't. I find that long drives surrounded by the countryside does a great deal towards keeping them happy in their job.
Nice to hear from another pony and harness lover. There aren't enough of us out there!
