Baby un-neutered buck + Baby un-spayed doe = ?
Hi there,
I have an un-neutered 9 week old buck and a 7 week ancient doe. Is it ok to let them play together because they cannot mate until they are 5-6 months old? I plan on getting them both spayed and neutered when they are of age.
Yes, rabbits will be fine together if they are that young. Depending on the breed, they can not mate untill 5-9 months, but I would get them fixed as soon as you can.
(Its nearly impossibly to convey in a rabbit it a male/female is 9&7 weeks old, unless you check by DNA. I would wait it out, and check when you are really competent to tell. (Around 4 months to be sure. Still, get them neuter!)
are you talking rabbits? or deer? There are many species of animals that go by doe and buck... so whether its rabbits. NO they can not play together because a rabbit can breed anytime after 4 to 6 weeks, they just generally dont till some months old, but they are moderately capable of breeding and female rabbits are always reactive. They do not have a heat or estrus cycle. They are stimulation ovulators. As for Deer if thats what your conversation about then they can play since they dont mature sexually for something like a year.
Answers: Hi...I've be raising and showing rabbits for 10 years. For the next couple weeks it would be safe to consent to them play since they are so young they should get along, but they could breed as early as 3 months of age even though they are not fully grown-up. And becoming pregnant that early is extremely hard on a doe. I also never recommend rabbits self spayed or neutered. It is really a waste of money and most importantly an unnecessary risk and pain to the rabbits. Anesthesia is extremely sturdy on rabbits and they do not handle it very well. Rabbits are not social animals and do not receive lonely or pine for other animals' company. They are naturally territorial and solitary (think about seeing wild rabbits, you never generally see more than one at a time, they do not live in packs or groups). Putting them in cage where they can see each other is good, but anything beyond that really is a preventable risk. Even apparently "bonded" rabbits will fight at one point or another, and over time typically chew off pieces of each other's ears and verbs out one another's fur. I know it sounds mean but adequate attention from you really is the best option. I even lately commented on another question on here where someone's buck just passed absent while getting neutered. So please reconsider getting them spayed and neutered. Hope this help and please feel free to contact me with any other questions you may enjoy.
9 weeks < 5 months. Your math is good.
Let'em play.
