CAN I SELL THE BACK OF A LARGE TORTOISE?

I have come across TWO large tortoise shell backs. Both are approximately 30" by 24". They appear to be enormously old... 50 or 60+ years old, and still have the vertibrae attached to the underside. Can I lawfully sell these in California or the United States??
If not, any suggestions on how to dispose of them?
Try a museum or zoo.
Why don't some posters understand that these are already body parts off dead animals? Sheesh.

Don't toss them absent, I'd donate them to a nature center if you have one close by, or shift down to the museum in your city and see if they want it. Or you could phone ahead and ask, that would save you the trip.

As for whether it's legal--phone your DNR representative (government pages in the white pages of the phone book) and ask.
Don't dispose them!
They solitary got a few years left! Let them have it!
If you dispose them that's merely pure and true cruelty.
If you dispose them then they die.
Just like hermit crabs whether you take off their shells.

I personally would donate them to an organization that deal with reptiles. If you must truly sell them then look on Ebay..Just spawn sure you do note the turtle does not come with the shell. HAHAAHHAH...Kidding
Answers:    Check with your local spectator sport and parks or wildlife office first. You can do it anonymously if you want.

It is usually against the tenet collect, own, buy, sell, or trade any part of a protected species, and most tortoises in the US are protected by federal ruling that is taken pretty seriously.

Your best, safest bet would be to check the local law with folks who really know and would enforce it if needed.

I am guessing you will probably be requested to surrender them to the authorities so they can be dealt with according to the tenet.

Are they dead?
If they are comatose (which it seems like) then go ahead and go them to a musuem... maybe a zoo or school even! ONLY IF THEY ARE DEAD!! If they are alive let them live.
Well, whether its not legal which you can look up on google, you can paint them maybe, and then swing them on the wall. If not, sell them on ebay starting at $600...
put them vertebrae where you got them, its kinda gross
