Heat wipe nontoxic for ferret?
My ferret just had surgery and I am hoping to bring him home tomorrow or soon after. In the vet clinic they enjoy him on a heat pad. If I can bring him home would it be nontoxic for me to use a heat pad with him and his enclose mate?
ask the vet beforehand you bring it home. if it was me i would not put him spinal column in the same cage as his mate right presently, at least until he heals.
Ferrets like to chew and dig and an electric heat pad could cause a big problem. I would choose instead a nonelectric pad that you bake in the microwave. Since it cools over time, it should be easier keep him from getting overheated. As he heals he'll become more dynamic and return to his old inquisitive self, so you'll want to remove the heating pad past he can shred it. A hanging ferret tunnel in his cage might also be a appropriate choice since it holds in body heat--my ferrets just loved theirs and wore it out. Check our PetSmart or Petco, or theferretstore.com. Good luck!
Answers: it should be ok just make sure its not too hot and not contained by contact with your ferret too long. you probably need to turn him and move him around so he doesnt get too hot or adjectives from being in one spot.
ps-ask the vet im sure they'll notify you all you need to do to take guardianship of him
pss-why did your ferret need surgery?
u know instead of asking us n getting adjectives weird answers, i think its safest to call ur vet n ask what he think... on yahoo dffrnt ppl will say dffrnt things but its ur ferret who just had a surgery. so plz dnt appropriate any risk here . rather just call ur vet n ask him. dffntly he will know best.
( whether ur lucky enough some with real xperience might answer ur cross-examine, but no point in waiting for luck) hope ur ferret recovers soon. all the best.
A heat pad should be fine, as long as you monitor the heat. The only problem is that they are difficult to control the heat, so it requires fairly constant monitoring. Don't leave it on over darkness or unattended. Otherwise, a heating pad is fine for short periods of time.
perhaps whether you wrap it up, ferrets have poor sweat glands, so they get hot quicker, but the cold they do relish.
