Introducing rabbits? ?
I have a 3month old lion head rabbit, at some point i would close to a friend for him, but would like him settled and trained first, is there an age limit on when u can introduce a unsullied rabbit? would he be too old in a year or so?
Neutered/Spayed rabbits always bond best. Two un-spayed sisters may get along Ok but un-neutered males will mount each other and fray, even brothers.
Can I keep my un-neutered buck with my spayed doe? No, the male will mount the womanly and try breed at every chance he gets. This will just annoy the doe and she will eventually lash out and brawl. The buck may also spray.
Can I keep my un-spayed doe with my neutered buck? No, females are incredibly territorial and will probably hurt the buck. She may also get confused, wondering why the buck dosen't want to mate.
Once you have your pair, introduce them. Get one entity to keep an eye on one rabbit whilst you keep an eye on the other. Praise them if they stay relaxed and don't hurt their partner. A small space such as the bathtub or the run is good to do this because they wont get distracted by other things. Repeat this a few times a morning until they seem to get along.
If you still think the rabbits aren't bonding, another method is to put both contained by the backseat of a car. You need someone to drive and someone to keep the rabbits below control. They should get scared by the car and stay together for protection.
When you agree on to house them together, you should either buy a new hutch or completely disinfect an old one. Remember, two rabbits are immediately going to live here. The hutch needs to be very big and spacious and you should have two bowls so the rabbits don't own to take it in turns to eat.
The earlier the better I do believe. If you wait til the are adults you can have issues roughly who is the top rabbits. Just like with other animals their is "top" rabbit and the other rabbits know who it is. They will get into skirmishes to numeral out who is the top. Males cannot get together if not neutered and I enjoy no clue even if they are neutered if they seize a long. Females do get a lon, but will get in skirmishes in the region of who is the "top rabbit". This will include some ear nipping. Know if they get into full fledged fight they probably will never get along. Just get his companion as soon as possible and remember males and females breed like rabbits. A LOT! Hope I help!
Answers: It's a tricky one.
It's best to introduce a partner of the opposite sex as soon as possible...however...you don't want ten thousand rabbits! I don't regard as a year is too old, it depends always on the individual rabbit.
Maybe wait until you own had your rabbit neutered and it is fully recovered. The hormones will have calmed down a bit and your rabbit will be potentially geared up to make friends.
The slowly introduce the new rabbit. But be warned, it can travel horribly wrong! I have a rabbit who just doesn't like other rabbits! No concern what! She just likes people. Sometimes it happen.
Why not try your local rescue centre? They quite often will help out with introductions, and will try a few rabbits to find the best match?
You could visit www.rabbitrehome.org.uk for some planning.
whether he is a he dont get another he or else they will fight to blood or even destruction but i have heard of people who enjoy two neutered males that get on perfectly. another entity you can do to garantie no fights is to get your male nuetered and after get a female. they will get along resembling two peas in a pod but if you dont want babies every month if getting a she to live near him i do strongly suggest you get him nuetered or you could rescue a nuetered female from a shelter and afterwards it costs you less and you will have two rabbits that get on economically
