Next Saturday I'm helping out at my local vet for the first time. What kindly of job will I be expected to do?

I'm fifteen by the way.
Probably on your first day they will have you observe. They may own you clean cages, and if they own a good feel for your ability, they may hold you walk some of the hospitalized animals. After you've gone a few times, and they get a better grasp on your ability, they may allow you to assist beside surgeries in the form of you being scrubbed and sterile, and ratification instruments. They may even have you learn how to set up tests for the docs to read (fecals, vag smears, spin and separate serum or semen, things of that order) The ones that come along to observe/gain experience at the facility I work at (large animal only) sometimes bring quite the education when they have to move about out and help work a herd of cattle, and in a few cases, even work herd of bison. Gets your blood really going when a PO'd bison decides it wants to come after you...but it's a very solid part of the experience. Some of the work winds up being glorified "gofer" stuff, and may seem to be a bit menial, but it's all part of it. BTW.you didn't say.is it a small animal or life-size animal facility, or mixed?
Depends. Are you volunteering or are you an actual rewarded employee? Due to insurance reasons, volunteers are limited to the tasks they can do, and normally help with cleaning and maintenance fairly than handling the animals. However, it's just going to depend on how lenient the vet in charge is and what types of cases come within.
Mostly cleaning up between vet visit, maybe some paperwork and filing.

Answers:    You'll probably be expected to do a lot of cleaning I'm afraid.

Kennels etc, you may be lucky enough to shift into consulting with a vet to observe or even surgery if near is any.

Whenever we have work experience people at work we have to donate them easy jobs so they don't get surrounded by our way, or do anything that could jeopardise them or the patients.
Once the staff are more familiar with you and when you are more aware of what is going on around you ( as veterinary practises tend to be busy) you will be asked to do more.
