Putting down Rabbits...?
I breed and show rabbits frequently as a hobby. Unfortunately, a lot of the time, I end up with culls (rabbits beside not only disqualifying factors, but with factor that may lead to death, things like malocclusion) that I can't supply or even give away. I have never put down a rabbit myself, but I can't keep hold of the rabbits I don't need anymore. Now, I have a friend that shoots her rabbits- I have another that crack their neck- and another who hits their ear underside with a hard, blunt, object.
Of course these things are unpleasant to me because, of course, I love my rabbits. When they are in pain or will die besides, however, I need a way to put them down without a vet, that isn't so gruesome. Any suggestions?
You should'nt breed them if you KNOW that this gonna happen!!
There is a reason only vets are allowed to use euthanasia. It really is not responsible to put an animal down short vet advise. And its irresponsible to breed these animals if you dont have the ability to get them to vets when they need it.
Answers: This isn't a flawless place to ask that... too many ARAs that don;t understand that people who bring to the fore rabbits for show consider them livestock and not necessarily pets as you would a dog or cat. Most breeders are responsible about their culls and don't flood the pet market. And that rabbits can be utilized for meat, fur and wool too.
Having said that, I have equal problem! After 18 years of raising rabbits I still can't cull myself. Luckily I have found people to thieve my culls for reptile food, a zoo for feeding their animals, and people who will butcher. I love eating rabbit but I don't want to butch any!
And yes, a .22 to the head is the easiest and most humane way if you hold one.

You want the bun to not suffer, so any shooting or breaking necks is best. There's a method called "the broomstick method", google it and see if that help.
Bullet to the leader is the best way. its so fast it wont even feel it and die instantly. the crack of the and hitting it are so horrible. near not as fast and more painful specially if you slip up.
